September 18, 2010 at 8:36 pm in reply to: New Ki Pro Mini

[John Heagy] “Thanks Gary, that’s good news. I’ve never used the SxS slots in the Ki Pro. It makes sense to format all media (HD and SS) the same, but didn’t want to assume”

Unfortunately John,The SxS card functionality is still not available to anyone, not even me.

I agree that it is breaking new ground on the CF cards, but like Arri’s concept with using the UDF format on Alexa maybe it is time for all of us to get away from using media formatted for operating systems that no longer require max volume sizes of less than 4G.

If you are in NYC next week I will be at the Createasphere event in Manhattan, but I am thinking your busy season is just starting.

September 18, 2010 at 1:45 pm in reply to: Kona 3 Output Major Playback Delay

[Richard Cooper] “The way to fix this is to put a “slug” on Video track 1 under everything.(Effects/video generators) Any time there is a “black space” on the time line with no media, the Kona gets confused”

This is an wholly an FCP issue,it happens with FW also, especially when your audio has been handled in a compressed manor as is the case when working with HDV or the H.264 originals from DSLRs when using the RTX processing engine in FCP.

When working with compressed audio the engine has to process the audio signal for playback, and when there is nothing in the timeline the processing jumps to the next edit point and begins processing, in this case since the video does not need processing- the audio lags behind because it does.

    [Warren Eig] “https://www.aja.com/products/kona/kona3g/

Here’s the link. DId I miss this?”

It was announced today (on my blog) along with the KiPro mini- a much smaller smaller, lighter (only 1lb or.5k) unit that records digital only signal without conversion in all 4 flavors of ProRes to CF cards. ( currently only sandisk is supported). for $1995.USD

and the Hi5-3D a stereo preview converter that takes dual stream HDSDI and muxes the signal to output over HDMI 1.4a or as single link HDSDI for $490USD.

( I am at IBC working for AJA as well as speaking on 3D as part of the digital media conference.

September 8, 2010 at 9:22 pm in reply to: Ki Pro and Sony Z7U

[Mark Welch] “Anyone use HDMI output to Ki Pro on these lower end cameras?

its actually a great way to get higher quality images out of this type of camera, as the video out signal is usually not run through any compression, so the captured image is going to be higher quality than the HDV/ AVCHD/ H.264 that is recorded in the file.

test it for your self- record in the camera and the kipro at the same time and see for yourself, in the look and in the post workflow.

September 4, 2010 at 9:31 pm in reply to: Ki Pro Wish List

[Yoav Dagan] “ProRes 4444, ProRes proxy.”

ProRes Proxy has been available since the v.1.1 release that came out before NAB

“HDMI to support 3D recording (HDMI 1.4) if possible to upgrade this port?”

The 1.3a works fine for 3D, I showed S3D content playing on a KiPro and being displayed on a JVC display at the Red User event at NAB.

    “cross conversion pal/ntsc /1080i 50 / 1080i 60 etc”

Thats not a what is considered a cross conversion- no aja products do this at this time.

    Ken,

the same copyrights that protect this software package protect your rights as a creative artist. Since the majority of users here call themselves working professionals- yes we are expected to buy gear to do our jobs, no different than if it were screwdrivers and wrenches or punch-presses.

Why is it that people want to be paid for their efforts but choose not to honor paying others for their time and effort spent building the products.

for the Record you are totally incorrect on the SLA licensing issue.

[Ken Eakins] ” I’m afraid you’re mis-informed, the hackintosh I am using is running a version of Snow Leopard that I purchased from the Apple Store. Also, you should really re-read the license agreement before rattling off your opinion. It’s perfectly legal to install OSX on any machine at least once per copy.”

Lame is not reading the document you refer too.

    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Single Use. This License allows you to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.
