[mishka] “Did I heard it right there is also 10-bit log RGB codec in this release? Can I use Gamma control to map 10-bit log RGB to linear for viewing on a video monitor?”

Correct there is both a 10bit RGB and a 10bit Log RGB for film out codec available.

with a separate application available as a free Download you can also now handle DPX files in and out of the
    kona 2.

[Peter McAuley] “Is Q rez implimented in this release?”

    NO

But the additional add on to do DPX files is a very big deal for the film community.

[Asaf] “Hello, in FCP4.5 HD under MAC OS X 10.3 on Dual 1GHz PowerMac G4, whenever I open a new sequence it says “Error: Out of Memory”. This problem occurs randomly.”

Check how full your scratch disk is….

if your scratch disks are near capacity you will often get this message too,

[Juan Salvo] “they’ve since become much more strict about testing their new drivers and have for the last few revisions released mature driver updates. 4.8 is completely bug free. “

I have never met a product that is bug free…

[Shane Ross] “24PA runs at 23.98, and that needs to be captured using the Advanced Pulldown option…but can still be played out of any camera or deck that plays back DVCAM.”

All 24(p or A) frame content plays at 23.98, unless you are working @24.O ( which you should not)

properly rev-telecine’d 24p footage ( w/ the standard 3:2 pulldown) will still carry the 29.97 TC but the footage needs to be played in a 23.98 (23.976) timeline.

There is a Easy set up for Using with Cinema tools to extract the proper frames called “Cinema Tools – 23.98fps from DV NTSC” in the “Additional Easy Setup’s” folder

[TommyG] “We have to get into HD, our clients are circling around the subject. Currently we have a dual 2gig G5 mac. Final cut pro hd. “

You need to hire someone… if your a Pro they are way too many issues that may crop up to just
figure it out. They will be session at NAB on this ( I am doing 2 of them) pay the money..
A Few hundred dollars before you start will save you 10’s of thousands of dollars later!

and the first questions you should be asking is:

    What is my deliverable?
from this question all of the others can be determined.

[KingCut] “Anyhow, I’d love some real world feedback on HDCAM to Qrez, and spitting back out to HDCAM. They shot 108O @ 24fps. Will we start getting compression artifacts to master? what about noise in the blacks (it’s a rock show). Any major pitfalls or redflags? “

    King
if your using a k2 card you can create a new seq and digitize directly from HDCam to DV25 for your offline. you can do this as either letterbox or as anamorphic depending on your preference. This maintains the TC accurately as opposed to transcoding or doing p-jpeg.
This way it does not require the hardware for qrez to installed on your edit station.( ie laptop)
