September 2, 2020 at 2:08 pm in reply to: ARRI Alexa SXT W not booting unless on external power.

Since the Battery plate was not made by Arri, I would swap that out first.

Sounds as if there is a short in the plate or if it had a fuse, the fuse has blown.

It is a simple 5 minute procedure if you have an additional plate lying around, Arri made that camera extremely easy to service and that is one of the user defined service repairs.

(I am not an official Alexa Tech, but I could be)

    Check the EYEPIECE Diopter settings.

if the eye piece is sharp and the image is not, the diopter setting in the EVF is set incorrectly.

An understanding of light would be an essential start to develop that knowledge.

You could also use the information gained by scanning trillions of frames of various film types, in a wide variety of locales to understand not only Gamma, Density and Colorimetry but how local climate factors can affect image acquisition.

    [Don Alexander] “I uninstalled 10.3.8 and installed the 10.3.0 package. The closed caption check boxes are available. My experience is encapsulated below;

The LHe often required a manual update to the firmware on the board.

Have you checked to see that it has the correct firmware for that card & OS combo?

That functionality is not possible on any KiPro model.

January 17, 2016 at 6:29 pm in reply to: Tool to display/extract ARRI metadata from SDI signal

[Salvador Garza] “So far my search has led me to QTakeHD,”

There is also a variety of test hardware that also provides this function.
There are a few apps for script supervisors that can modify / read the data stream but those tend to be closed hardware systems that require a good deal on hands-on input to maintain the data continuity.

Since Alexa’s are not widely used as LIVE production cameras, but more for episodic and cinematic workflows they do not have to tool set used in live production.

If you are doing what I think you might be, you should be looking into interconnected smart slates in conjunction with software used by script supervisors to maintain scene and take info independent of the camera system.

January 17, 2016 at 5:25 pm in reply to: Tool to display/extract ARRI metadata from SDI signal

[Salvador Garza] “Does anyone know of any tool that displays or extracts ARRI extended metadata from an Alexa HD-SDI signal?”

From a Live signal? That would require a rather expensive piece of test equipment.

If you just want to read the metadata after files are captured do a search for the Arri Alexa MetaData Extract tool.

January 4, 2016 at 4:14 pm in reply to: FCPX Exported image sequence are not good

[Giampaolo Moretti] “If I reimport in fcpx this simple image the levels are different from the original clip”

    What are your output parameters?

Are you outputting as in Full Range or SMPTE? (0-100 or 16-235)

The images indicate you are clipping the blacks, which often happens when you bounce between the Full range and SMPTE incodes.

Full Range file clip hard, The SMPTE Range spec allows the highlights and shadows to be “protected” to allow for greater range to be recorded by “rolling” off the extremes so the fit better within the acceptable.

A Full Range encoded file hard clips at 0 and 100 IRE while the SMPTE encoded file can handle “super white and super black” (below 0 and above 100 IRE)

December 29, 2015 at 6:26 pm in reply to: FCPX Exported image sequence are not good

[Giampaolo Moretti] “I have exported an image sequence of 35 frames from a 4k timeline (4096×2160 50p xavc-i) and all the images have a different black from the originals.”

Correct depending on what format you the frames were outputted to.

    Warnings:
you are starting with an 8bit acquisition format
video images have a different gamma than print.

December 28, 2015 at 6:27 pm in reply to: SXS UDF formated cards work … and don’t

[Patrice Freymond] “Not sure what you mean by “cleanUSB3″ port for the reader”

    Patrice

USB is notorious. The card reader should be directly attached to the USB3 port on your computer.

Keyboards and Mice are not USB3 in the Mac world and will slow down the transfer.
Especially if you are using a USB2 hub.
