December 27, 2015 at 11:19 pm[Patrice Freymond] “The Device driver was not installed as I use the Sony USB Card reader SBAC US30 with both computers.”
Why not install the device driver? it has needed components that are specific to the Sony Reader.
” Install 1 is on a 2012 MacBook Pro 15″ 8GB Ram, Install 2 is on a late 2012 iMac 27″ 32GB Ram”
Playback is based on both GPU performance and how the machine’s storage is configured.
What is it playing from on the Imac? and are you sure that you are on a clean USB3 port for the reader?

December 21, 2015 at 10:56 pm[Matthew Williams] “I’m trying to record 60fps @ 2K Pro Res 444 10 or 12-Bit.”
That data rate is beyond the specs of the KiPro Quad in 444 mode.
Try setting the capture to ProRes HQ or Standard for the record it will still be 10bit
FYI -(the 2K 60p output from the canon is only 10bit.)

December 14, 2015 at 4:05 pm[Ed Stevens] “I’d like to offer my clients the .mov master file also. “
Traditionally that file in not turned over to a client. Especially in your market as a wedding shooter.“I could provide them with a slim hard drive, formatted for a Mac OS Extended (journaled), loaded with their file(s). “
Why would you do that? Yes there is a 4GB limit on Fat32 formatting, but not on EXFAT {remember to eject the drive on the mac side or it will corrupt the directory}, will work much better for your clients as it is read /write on both platforms
“NTSF is read only on a Mac, so I couldn’t load a file on there and I read that if you enable NTFS support on a Mac it’s proven unstable.”
There are a number of apps and drivers available that handle NTFS on the mac side.
Paragon and Tuxera are available for purchase as well as a couple of free versions.Google “NTFS for Mac”

October 31, 2015 at 3:05 pm[Bob Cole] “In today’s video world, “future proofing” is a problematic concept. Could you recommend the AJA KI Pro Quad? “
Honestly, there has been little or no advancement on the KiPro product line for more than 2 years.
I would be looking at products that have been regularly updated such as the devices from Atomos and Convergent-Design have been.
I personally prefer having the monitor as an integral part of the recorder, eliminating the need to mount a secondary device on the camera, and having the ability to use standardized media rather than something proprietary has fiscal advantages too.

September 21, 2015 at 9:03 pm[Ricky Milling] “Are you saying its normal to see a little bit of curve when using anamorphic lens an i shouldnt worry?”
There is an inherent optical distortion in all anamorphic lenses, by their nature they were designed to use the greatest amount of the original 4:3 film frame as possible then with a projector and lens of the same elemental design was then used to “unsqueeze” the image for the screen.
All of that push / pull / squeeze of the light to the imager carries with it the characteristics of that lens type’s optical distortion, so yes you have to accept it or correct it later.
The designs from Kiowa and Lomo show noticeable curvature even at relatively normal focal lengths (35mm+)

September 21, 2015 at 3:58 pm[Ricky Milling] “Im editing a project using Alexa Xt lens and its coming our 4:3 Anamorphic 2k.
“Tools available to you vary with NLE, you do not say what NLE nor what type of edit, and whether you are woking in Arriraw or ProRes.
There is little you can do to (easily) to un-distort wide angle footage, especially with an anamorphic lens.

August 14, 2015 at 12:55 pm[Noah Kadner] “Never a bad idea to avoid full drives. That said, 80% is fairly conservative on that large a drive.”
Even on a larger volume keeping 15%-20% open allows for faster Renders and transfer of data since that space allows sufficient room for caching of the temporary data queue that is required when compressing or rendering content.

July 6, 2015 at 1:55 pm[Morten Berg] “How do I connect an ioEXPRESS to USB or Thunderbolt?”
Since the IoExpress uses the older express card as the user interface, the only way to make it work would be via something like the Sonnet Xpresscard adaptor w/ Thunderbolt.
I can assure you that will only work in the most limited fashion stick to nothing any more robust than 1080p30

April 15, 2015 at 1:21 am[Colin McQuillan] “When I re-encoded the files I exported from FCPX in Adobe Media Encoder (CS6) audio was set to stereo and the KiPro was able to playout the file just fine.”
The file format on the Kipro needs to be grouped as DUAL MONO.
And while those might be your intended settings, did you actually check the file in another application to confirm?
Look anytime you do a upgrade you run the chance of settings being modified or deleted completely.
The setting according to AJA are
If you are working in Final Cut Pro with an Apple ProRes sequence, you should take
note to review the Final Cut Pro Sequence Settings, and within the General tab, the
Audio Settings should be con”gured for:
Rate: 48 kHz
Depth: 24-bit
Con!g: Channel Grouped
(Apple-provided Apple ProRes Sequence Settings may default to 16-bit audio and the Ki Pro
and Ki Pro Mini only accept 48kHz 24-bit audio, not 16-bit)
and the note says NOTHING about stereo audio
