24p playback deck
Posted by Alexander Gittinger on April 4, 2005 at 5:28 pmA friend of mine shot a project with the Panasonic A100 in 24p. I do not have access to the camera, nor do I want to digitize from a camera. Which deck do I need to digitize the material into FCP as a 24p project?
Thanks for the help.Alexander Gittinger replied 20 years, 2 months ago 4 Members · 4 Replies -

April 4, 2005 at 5:32 pm24P…any camera or deck will do. Heck even with 24 PA any camera or dek will do (AFAIK). All you need to do for 24P is digitize using the DV/NTSC easy setup. 24P runs at 29.97.
24PA runs at 23.98, and that needs to be captured using the Advanced Pulldown option…but can still be played out of any camera or deck that plays back DVCAM.

All 24(p or A) frame content plays at 23.98, unless you are working @24.O ( which you should not)
properly rev-telecine’d 24p footage ( w/ the standard 3:2 pulldown) will still carry the 29.97 TC but the footage needs to be played in a 23.98 (23.976) timeline.
There is a Easy set up for Using with Cinema tools to extract the proper frames called “Cinema Tools – 23.98fps from DV NTSC” in the “Additional Easy Setup’s” folder

April 4, 2005 at 6:24 pmI’ve worked with footage shot at 24p with that Panasonic A100 camera. I captured it like any other DV footage from my SONY DSR-45 and editing in a 29.97 timeline. No problems at all. That is the whole point of that camera isn’t it? To have footage that ‘looks’ film-like but unless you are going to film-out the project or burn a progressive scan DVD there is no point to reverse telecine the footage and edit in a 23.98 timeline.
It’s not overly complicated… is it?

Since this project will not go to film, the way to go is, capture from a regular DV deck.Great site! Thanks again for the quick info and help
