    Hi there,

Arri D21 shoots hight speed in 422 YUV DPX standard equence. But all of our softwares can’t read those files properly including Smoke AE Skake Speed grade DI, and even XnView. Main postproduction systems work in RGB mode. I geuss there must be a color vonversion before comping and DI. Does anyone heve this experience about this?

    Thank in advance.

[Leo Lin] “Arri D21 shoots hight speed in 422 YUV DPX standard equence.”

    No

D21 only does offspeed (1080p50 or 60) as Dual Link to stwo, codex and KG DDR’s or an SRW1 what has been configured for fiber.

    More details are necessary.

    Thank Gary,

It’s shot by D21 at 60fps, recorded by S.Two flash mag in dpx YUV mode. Please see attached screenshot.

You can convert them with GraphicsMagick or ImageMagick command-line tools, but it was 8 bit per channel last time I checked. Also, Pomfort SilverStack 1.6 can read them but it cannot render to DPX, only QuickTime or TIFF.

50/60 fps shooting with ARRI is a mess. TC is half the frame rate and it will give you hell during conform. Sometimes there is a delay between two channels so you get something like this: 2,1,4,3,6,5,8,7 or even this: 10,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,20,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,30

[Michael Aranyshev] “You can convert them with GraphicsMagick or ImageMagick command-line tools, but it was 8 bit per channel last time I checked.”

50p/60p is traditionally only 8bit 4:2:2 even thought it is sent over a Dual Link or T-link connection, newer cameras can commit the files as 10bit 444 like Alexa or the f23. (f35 only goes to 50p).

“50/60 fps shooting with ARRI is a mess. TC is half the frame rate and it will give you hell during conform. “
That is due to the fact when the camera was new the use for 60p acquisition it was for Offspeed capture, not for capture at full 60p but for overcranking for cinematic effect.
