I am currently using the original kona HD board using the current AJA drivers on a DP G4 as a playout server and test machine without too many issues.
I get NO hardware acceleration or UP?Down Conversion and only currently do 1080i60 | 29.97 and 720p59.94 | 23.98

It is not that only 24pA should be captured at 23.976 it is just that FCP does not support traditional pulldown removal via firewire. You would need Aurora card to do it via SDI/composite/etc.”Look Shane — your neg cutter is looking for a 29.97 cut list because it makes more work for him, hence he gets paid more.
Avid traditionally used a 29.97 cut list “cause Avid did not think NLE editors would understand the process of removing the 3:2 cadence.you have a really easy solution here– FCP edit the content at 60i and send a CT 29.97 cut list to the jerk.

Not sure. I have the 1200A with all options installed and it came to just under $32k “Supply and demand the decks are less that one year old. I will talk a year or 2 for the prices to start coming down.

remember that the flagged frames will always convert to 23.98 (24p) when using the Frame Rate Converter’s (either software or hardware) it is a function of how it works — it always converts the flagged frames for a 23.98 timeline.so in reality the work is done for you ( but 2 % slower than you recorded it.

Emery let’s be a bit more specific, you are correct that some of the effects in FCP only render in 8bit, even when your timeline is set for 10bit.
This is the same for the comparable avid products. Setting the correct bit depth is a function of the operator as well as the software. Understand that working Dual Link is not for the timid and almost requires that the operator have either the knowledge base to handle the process or hire one of the less than a dozen or so people that are familiar working with 4:4:4 in FCP.did some one mention that FCP does not see RGB files and converts the video to YUV for Playout? or that the files you will be working with exceed 250mgs a second and can reach nearly 500mgs a second with certain versions of the format?
or that the HDCAM-SR format is ONLY 10bit.. so maybe the 32 bit rant is a little unfounded..

Leo is correct, the Varicam is preferred for sports and anything that utilizes motion as part of the project. According to an
industry newsletter put out by Fletcher/ Chicago –one of the largest HD rental houses in the country — that the Varicam’s are out selling CineAlta’s about 10-1 in everywhere in the us but hollywood.One thing to add to leo’s comments –Apple is recommending the Varicam – 720p24 workflow for Film Out with FCP5

I’m with Marco here, I cannot believe how many of you just jump into the new App ( on 10.3.9 which everyone universally says sucks) or the Tiger / fcp5 combo ( IMHO is 300% more stable than 10.3.9) in the middle of a project.
He and I stay on the bleeding edge of this stuff and neither of us are willing to scarify our livelihoods on unproven software.
I too am of the have a second drive cloned and use it to test on.
Everyone is having problems, I found that all of the 3 party drivers responded better when I reinstalled them when working on my Tiger / 5 machine that was just upgraded — this was especially true with the DVCPROHD components for the Panasonic 1200a deck, QT 7 ignored the pieces from the previous OS. Once I reinstalled everything was fine.gary

It is not an FCP 5 issue, but a 10.3.9 / QT7 issue.
10.3.9 is NOT recommended even thought you have to install it to use FCP5 in panther.gary adcock
