Kona 1 support
Posted by Strangelove1979 on June 2, 2005 at 2:26 amHi,
I just wanted to know if aja will support kona 1 for fcp 5. I have checked their website and they don’t even have any kona 1 driver. Is that normal?
I just upgraded my g4 to a g5 and desperately need some drivers. Where can i find them? Thanks

I am currently using the original kona HD board using the current AJA drivers on a DP G4 as a playout server and test machine without too many issues.
I get NO hardware acceleration or UP?Down Conversion and only currently do 1080i60 | 29.97 and 720p59.94 | 23.98
but it does work. just none of the cool stuff.gary adcock

June 2, 2005 at 4:14 pmBut is there a driver that gonna come up eventually? Or they’ll just don’t care about there kona sd users like you would do to an old shoe?
I mean, this card is pretty much all i need right now, i don’t need the kona 2 at all. But i just bought final cut pro studio and would love to have a clean and stable driver.
I don’t know too much about aja, but i think that lack of support of older stuff says a lot about a company. -

June 2, 2005 at 8:11 pmHi-
We absolutely do care about Kona SD customers!
The driver supplier for the Kona SD and HD unilaterally decided to discontinue support and further development last year. Also last year, we offered very generous upgrades to Kona 2 with our AJA-built and supported driver, for Kona SD and Kona HD clients. These upgrade programs unfortunately have expired.
We had initially announced AJA driver support for original Kona cards, but this has not occurred. AJA is most interested in satisfied clients, so please call us to discuss your individual needs, and we will do our best to fix your problem.
Thank you,

We are still maintaining drivers for Kona SD including FCP5 and Tiger support. You can find the current details here:
https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=86We’ve just found a bug with the Kona SD under Tiger so we will fix that in the next few hours and post the fix in the next update which will be the DeckLink v5.0b3 drivers.

[AJA Sales Department] “The driver supplier for the Kona SD and Kona HD unilaterally decided to discontinue support and further development last year.”
That is incorrect and even contradicts John Abt’s statement at the time. We stated that we would not add new features to the Blackmagic Kona drivers but that we would continue to provide maintenance updates as required.

Please check with John if you are in any doubt. We continued to supply driver updates for the Kona HD card up to the point that AJA swapped them out for Kona 2 cards. The swap-over deal was in October 2004 and we kept updating the drivers up to December 2004 and those are still on our web site at https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=86.
To this day, we also continue to maintain driver updates for Kona SD as AJA never provided their own drivers for the card. Details of current Kona SD driver support can be found at
