well to me not realtime is frustrating (this is why have 3 GTX470)
and working should be as much smooth and fun as possible (otherwise gets, frustrating ,boring and not a pleasure or fun )

i strongly believe that the tools for the job help the personal experience to be enjoyable with means : you stay at the office and you enjoy it more instead of dreaming to go home because gets frustrating …

ps: i am wondering : does Stefan sonnefeld at company 3 divide the project in Reels on Linux because of this ? or is only a MAc Thing ?

i have 24GB and i never had this problem , but have to say that i never had more 1000 shots on the timeline …

totally agree ,

Speedgrade have zoo many missing features and little details …

i could not believe that the price of the product was 20K (only Raw) or 50K (all formats),
at the time i bought scratch i compared the 2 systems and honestly speed grade was incredibly inferiors and more amateur …

Adoube should add a lot of Adobe sauce to it , as well as sell it for few hundred dollars …otherwise …really both worth …

i asked to BMD to add to color trace the ability to copy the RED setting as well ,

so far ye only way to copy R#D setting is trough the site store or memory banks

i have 24Gb Ram and i never have that problem

but i guess i never had more than 1000 shots (for about 14 hours of footage on the master session (dailies))

also :does the amount of GPU count as well ? (meaning amount of memory of the GPU?)

i totally disagree .

8 bit vs 10 bit is not as Bad you are saying , 8 bit H264 can be delivered with such high quality that the grading experience should not be compromised by the internet delivery …Blu Ray can look Like the R3D color session etc…

It’s like a 16bit Tif and a 8 Bit Jpeg Properly compressed (inside the files the amount of information is incredibly different (high on tif and super poor on a Jpeg), but on the surface you basically cannot tell the difference)

i believed that as well (grading in 8bit) a while ago ..

than later on , i have realized how clients , in My room what to to see the most stunning image as possible ,otherwise they might be not happy of the money spent .
