Resolve Output Monitoring

Hi, having a single GPU will significantly limit real time operation but does not have to do with the Intensity Pro output which should display the end result of the node graph so all the nodes influence the output. What makes you believe that the output monitor is switching to each node as you do? For example, make a two node grade, in node one make the image red, node two increase the green. The output will now be a combination of the two nodes. Selecting node one (double click) will not make the output image jump to red yet clearly you have a red grade there. Is there another operation action that you are doing to select the nodes, maybe single clicking near the node number to disable the node?

Peter, thanks for responding as I’m quite perplexed. Let me paint a better picture. I’m in the Color room and applying different nodes and adjusting the parameters, and on the video output of the Intensity card I’m seeing the same display as the window in the upper left with the circular mask and grey matte , etc. Makes it very difficult to color correct. If I change the tab from clip to track then the Video Monitor will show that output that is the sum of the different modes but of course I can’t select or adjust modes.

Hi, the viewer is showing the final output, just like the Intensity Pro, so it seems it working correctly. So to operational issues.
The Clip mode permits control of grades for each clip, the Track Mode for the final timeline. Few use the track mode in daily work as it adjusts the whole timeline.

So back to clip mode, if you are seeing a gray screen, you must have highlight turned on, try Shift H. The mask/matte windows will be displayed if you have them turned on too. Command Shift C….

If you get in trouble, right click on the node graph background and select Base Mem will delete all the grades and get you back to square one.

There are a number of online training classes available, some even free, so I can recommend giving them a try.

Hey Joseph, seems your configuration is not so bad after all and Resolve works…maybe not as expected but thats normal for a new piece of software.
fxpHD has an excellent course that will bring you up to speed within days.
Give it a week or so without questions, just watching and doing.
Some of the concepts are different from Color or something, but nether less powerful.
Have fun exploring 🙂

Thanks Sascha; yes, I’m getting up to speed and it’s quite a beast. I started out as a colorist in the 80’s at the famed One Pass in SF on a Rank so this is kind of coming full circle. I only want Resolve for the home to do director cuts and personal work. Do you recommend the GTX 470 / GT 120 card upgrade as I’m presently running it on a 12core with a single 5770 card. My concern is running CS5 apps. Someone suggested switching the dual 23″ ACD’s to the 470 output when using Photoshop? Also, I’m using then Lite version that doesn’t include NR.

Quadro 4000 will work with the 5770 so you can keep the 5770 for UI with two monitors.

I don’t have personal experience with GTX470 but many others do. Its a little more complicated to get working as its not in the Mac OS official supported list.

I found the best classes, and most complete, are Tao Of Color. A bit slow-moving for someone who has been in post a long time, but ideal for a beginner. I learned quite a few things, which made my patience with the beginner stuff worth it.

I am surprised that Resolve will run on a Mac with just the ATI5770. I was under the impression that a CUDA card was needed for Resolve to start up.

I have a 5.1 MacPro with the 5770 that I am using with Premier Pro and After Effects.

I bought the flashed 120 and 470 cards but have not yet installed them.

So can I install Resolve now just using the ATI5770 and begin to learn the interface and then later install the 120 and 470 cards when I am ready to seriously start using Resolve?

Yes I have a 12 core with a 5770 and it runs..not real time but close. One of the things I’ve been contemplating, does one need real time if there are no clients in the room?
