December 29, 2011 at 1:43 amSo Sascha I’m building a system and my 12 core has a 5770 and Intensity Pro in it. I’ve asked the question in another post but I’ll ask you directly. What is the correct (newest, fastest) card configuration for a 12 core? Will getting rid of the5770 slow down CS5 applications? These cards need to be “burned” correct? What vendor do you recommend?
Thanks, Joe

December 29, 2011 at 3:16 amWhat’s the source of the GTX 470? Is it Mac or flashed?
Does it need extra power? How are you managing this power issue?
What other cards do you have in the MacPro?
Heat problems?———————————–

December 29, 2011 at 9:21 amClear questions , clear answers :
Source of the GTX470

https://store.apple.com/us/product/H3314LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ
(Danish store in my case, for tax and warranty reasons)PCIe Y power splitter

There is no power issue, I am not using external power.
The other two card I am using are a eSata card and the 3D+ Extreme.
The system temp is fine, the GTX470 is not making much noise, the Q4000 is a little louder, but not under Resolve, more with Scratch or AE.The goal was to avoid the external box solution, which worked fine.

I am building a new system and this tread is wery usefull.
Is Quadro4000/GTX470 the best combo for Resolve ? What about the FX4800 ?
I am not up to date on graphic cards.

December 29, 2011 at 1:02 pm4800 is slow compared to 470.
470 seems optimal as it gives more speed compared to 2xx and is simple to use no
external power.but you can go nuts and get expander and have 3×480 etc.
most users do not need this.—

December 29, 2011 at 1:46 pmThanks Sascha,
This is exactly the config I’m considering.
The system I’m using is a CTO with 2 GT120 cards, one G-Tech eSATA card, and a Kona LHi already in there. So I plan on swapping the Kona for a BM Extreme HD3D, leaving the G-Tech, and swapping a GTX 470 for one of the GT120 cards.
What’s the ideal slot order for these?
If I need to do a Red job and have to fit in a Red Rocket, I need to give up the eSATA or the BM. Or, can I get away with not using a Red rocket? Will the 470 kind of fill in for that you think?

December 29, 2011 at 4:44 pmPersonally, I am not a big fan of the Rocket in a grading situation.
Its great for dailies, but when you debayer through the card, it spools up.
That feels like a delay when scrubbing, and I am scrubbing a lot.
I just work in half res and live with the 22fps.
Epic of course is a different beast.
There you need to either prerender or go lower.
But no, the GTX will not do any number crunching on that…you just get more nodes.A slice of color…

December 29, 2011 at 4:53 pmTo be clear here you have the 120 and the 470 only in there? Or do you also have the stock ati as well?
If its only the 120 and the 470 then.. how is that different then me using the ati 4770 and pairing it with the 470 card?
Only one will do processing in this case the 470.
Now if you managed to get the ATI and both nvidia cards in there then please let us know.
