December 29, 2011 at 5:04 pmCause the main card hooked up to your computer display doesn’t do Cuda processing at all. Only the unconnected one does. So doesn’t matter if its a ATI or not at that point only the 4000 or the 470 would accelerate Resolve. Now if i could have an ATI in there hooked up to displays and then a 4000 and a 470 or (2) 470s then you would be much better off if it worked without an expansion chassis. But at this point can anyone confirm that there isn’t a way to get 3 cards in the mac pro directly?

December 29, 2011 at 6:34 pmWell, I know it doesnt do CUDA, but the Quadro as a main card does everything else…
Thats what I was after..
Sure you can try using a 5770 instead…it also has one power port only.
But space wise ?
Not cool, that will take another slot.A slice of color…

I think it would be an issue with lane width/ bit transfer rates, in that you really need a 16x PCIe slot, and the upper two slots in the current MacPros don’t support that, so you’re stuck with using them for I/O video and storage drive interfaces.

December 29, 2011 at 6:58 pmYes.. though could you put the two cuda cards in the 16x slots and the ATI in one of the 8x slots?
Providing power or storage controller wasn’t the issue. i don’t’ think the decklink needs more then a 4x

January 30, 2012 at 12:43 pmHi.
I wonder how did you get molex Y to pci e on 5.1 machine.
I just got my 470 but optical bay has sata power only or i’m just blind 🙂

February 2, 2012 at 3:26 amI just installed a 470 in my MacPro and connected the power cables to the motherboard directly. Why do you need to go to the optical bay?

February 2, 2012 at 8:06 amYeah i just had my worry’s
I just also installed my cards and made custom Y cable and all went well.
What i liked about my custom cable as it is a bit cleaner in look 😉 compared to shops pc ones.My initial idea was to have power more distributed on different power lanes
this is why i was thinking of getting power from other sources. But what happened after i started new config and played with some shots.
UPS went mad and stated that it did not wand to work 🙂—

February 25, 2012 at 3:06 amSadly I had it only working for a few minutes before my system shut down by itself 🙁
It was too much power draw, main difference in setup is that i’m running a 10 tb raid. I added a 5th drive in the optical bay. and i have a hba instead of a regular esata card.
if anybody is running a setup like that, the power draw will be too much once you start maxing out the 470’s usage. everything was going smoothly until i started pushing the card with blurs and noise reduction. I heard the card spin up to max fan, and everything turned off.
Guess I’m gonna be looking into a cyclone!
