Sorry about the delay in replying, I am out of the country for a doc… Have you tried to render without CUDA enabled and used CPU only?

You are also using HIGH in Render as…/Custom Settings/Profile. You may try to change it to Baseline. Here’s a good read (one of them anyways) on the subject and when to use the different options.

Render time will also be linked to which and how many effects you have in your timeline. One thing you can do, for example, is to pre-render recurring segments. An intro for example. If you are using one and it’s always the same and it has a lot of effects, render it separately. You can do this for other parts also.

Just go to:

and download your version of Vegas 14 ( Edit, Suite, etc…) The latest version is usually the one available.

After saving your presets, add-ons, plug-ins, etc… (if you have any) it is always better to completely uninstall instead of ”crushing” a newer version on an older one. Make sure that you have all your serial #s handy.

Back when Sony was running the show, you could pick and choose which version you wanted.

Hi Jeff

If I understood you correctly, track # 9 is your music, track # 8 is your voice over. What is track #10 ?

Let’s get back to basics. It is always preferable to start with clean, normalized and balanced sound.

Don’t forget that Vegas started out as an audio only editing software. It has a bunch of great tools at your finger tips.

There are different ways to approach it and this is mine.

(Providing that your recording is up to par…)

I render each clip, audio only, and save them separately.

Every clips where I will use the audio is first cleaned with the noise reduction feature in Audition (I am almost sure that there is the same feature in Audacity) If you do this afterwards, you will end up boosting your background noise and any other unwarranted sounds.

Next up for me is Levelator. It’s a great little (free) software that levels out your sound track. It’s not perfect but close.

I then match them back to the video.

Most important, as Graham B. mentioned, you have to be able to properly monitor your audio. It is highly recommended that you get yourself a more than decent pair of headphones and/or a pair of balanced speakers with a proper amplifier. Stay away from the cheap ones, they just won’t give you the full range.

Back in Vegas, you can play with the numerous audio features to make your tracks sound perfect for your feature.

Go to Files/Properties/Video/Template

Find the 4:3 template that fits your need.

Then go to Pixel Aspect Ratio and select 1.3333

and then Apply and OK

Save as… and Render

Should do the trick.

Hi John

I’m at a bit of a loss to understand why you would want to take this road. The 2.40 to 1 format (actually 2.39) was originally developed in order to make full usage of the frame on 4-perf film. It is shot with an anamorphic lens and when projected the process is reversed.

Now, if you want that ”Panavision” look, change your parameters to 1.2121 (File/Properties/Video/Pixel Aspect Ratio)

Don’t forget to shoot and frame accordingly.

Hi Mark. There could be numerous causes for your problem. New plug-ins, hardware change/modification, software updates, OS updates’ etc… There are so many variables that in order to help pinpoint the cause(s), this is what I do.

Bare with me. Vegas has a feature that auto saves on a regular basis, which is nice but none should rely on it. After making any significant changes, modifications, additions, etc… It is prudent and wise to save your project with a different name. For example, if I name my project BOB.veg then the next time I save it I will save it under BOB_1.veg, BOB_2.veg and so forth. This way you can go ”back in time” and it is easier to identify the point when a problem comes up.

VEG files are really small, from a few KB to a couple of Megs. Also try to segregate your files on separate disks.

All of that being said, without knowing your hardware specs, I would take a look at that first to eliminate that possibility and then move on to the software.
