1. No. You can’t since HQ clips are per se opposite to anything we call proxy. This is original media.
2. No. If you did you’d end up relinking all media files that went off-line. I can’t give you fool-proof advice given the fact that I know next to nothing about particulars of your project.
3. Yes. You can capture DV footage as ProRes Proxy Clip (you need to have aja or black magic installed) then recapture clips used in edit as HQ ProRes footage.Anyways, don’t mess with resolution and/or frame-rate. Proxy means light bandwidth, i.e. bit-rate, all the rest is exactly the same. Otherwise you’ll get yourself into a storm of s–t.

Capture/Ingest/Conversion of SD footage will yield no additional production value. To add insult to injury it’ll increase files size and boost bit-rate.
Don’t be confused. You transcode footage from iPhone into ProRes because it was captured as H.264 which is no way codec for editing.Free-lance fcp editor in Moscow

If you want steer clear of any problems relating to non-English environment, i.e. problems with shortcuts and the like, always install only US English language OS X and use US English keyboard layout while working with any application from FCS. If you ignore this simple rule you risk putting yourself on the precipice of all possible problems.

No, your mac is ok. Does it happen with all your ProRes 4444/HQ footage or only some clips are affected? Could you please check read/write speed of your HDDs? Didn’t you inadvertently limit their speed with jumper block? Try to use external HDD for media storage and see if your clips are still lagging behind in playback.

If you don’t need alpha channel, neither do you layers control, then why not to get rid of psd altogether. Simply make it mov file and apply any filter.

Outdated FCP architecture that’s what is wrong. How many 1080 ProRes 4444 streams are you trying to play back simultaneously? If I were you I’d just uncheck report drop frames function and keep on doing whatever you’re doing out there.

Right now I’m in the middle of testing this pipeline. Adobe Encoder CS5 works in 64-bit mode and hence can use all memory and cpu cores. Recently I exported project from fcp into xml, then import it in Adobe Premiere and export thru Encoder. I got approximately three times render productivity spike compared to compressor. It’s rough estimate and it’s too early to make suggestions, though. If you don’t have a zillion-core apple then may be this is a good way for you to speed up rendering times, because I’m sick and tired watching my renders taking as much time as five or six hours with moderate load on cpus and negligent consumption of RAM.
