You can mix different frame-rates on timeline though be advised not to. I’d prefer, have I had this luxury, to convert all files to one frame-rate (and resolution) to work with. If in hurry, I just drop all clips on timeline and go along with it. In this case I am ready for mild artifacts down the road due to bad frame-rate conversion.

So far QT h.264 is industry standard for all deliverables. For clients I convert into it. Never heard them complain.

What exactly was their problem w/ synchronized footage you’ve sent to them? It’s not dependent on plural eyes. You can send them all assets to reconstruct project but as my own experience proves it this is a sure way to more problems and wasteful back and forth communications since clients are not mindful of all peculiarities of the project and your idiosyncrasies.

In this case I can see only one path to take. Export your film from Avid as image sequence (Tifs, for instance). Open it in QT7 and export as ProRess HQ or 4444. Make sure you get no gamma shift. Now you can create proxy ProRes files to work with with ability to reconnect later to original ProRes HQ files. Anyways you’ll have to convert since working directly with avi’s is a bad idea from the very beginning.

I suppose you’re to get graded QT ProRes 422 HQ or 4444. In this case I’d convert it into ProRes LT or Proxy (the former is about two times the bitrate of DV and the latter has approximately the same bitrate as DV). Do not change resolution and framerate. After you’ve done with cutting just change sequence compressor to HQ or 4444 and relink media to original file. Now you can export your cut into any format preserving original quality.

Nested sequences will be updated though their duration will not be affected.

You certainly can add US English keyboard layout though there is a little problem. I guess Italian and English layouts are different so you’ll have to remember English keys and use them instead of Italian ones. To add English language go to System Preferences (Mac OS) -> Language & Text -> Input Sources -> check US ->
Then go to Language -> Put English in the first place on top of Italian – >Then go to Keyboard – > Keyboard shortcuts -> Keyboard and Text input -> check Select the previous input source.
It’s a piece of cake. Now you can switch to English layout as you work in fcp.

I believe you need to have XDCAM Transfer installed in order to work properly w/ SxS cards. Also you might need to have latest version of FAM driver. Check sony web site for available software.

All hot keys work only in standard English language layout. If you want to use them switch to US English keyboard layout.

I bet the problem somewhere among your stills. If you have pretty large stills they may cause the trouble. Try to steer clear of any bmps, gifs and heavily compressed jpgs. Instead use tiffs or pngs with video compatible resolution of 72 Do you work in Dv NTSC sequence? I am afraid you’d have to find exact trouble maker on your timeline and deal with it.
