Does you sequence contain footage of varying resolutions and frame-rates? Is your captured footage dv? What particular effects and filters did you apply? Can you tell from export progress what part of your sequence went awry. Did you try partial export in order to localize the problem spot?

If fcp loses render files it says straight up about it as you open project. Do you have such pop-up notice? Check system prefs to see where your render files are to be saved. Check if the files are there. Sorry for stupid question, do you render files? Clips with green line overhead are not to be rendered by default when you hit command R. They will be only if you specify it.

What kind of file is that? Codec? Container? Is it a fcp sequence or self-contained file?

I didn’t work with such stuff for quite a period, though I checked my version of XDcam transfer and mine is ver. 2.7 You seem to have outdated software. Check with sony for the latest one.

What’s a big deal? Work with Japanese soundtrack in FCP as if it were English one. Then transcode it into dvd compatible format, import into dvd studio pro or whatever authoring suite you used to work with, remake menu to add second language. That’s it.

Use share option of fcp to encode and upload on youtube or use youtube sharing preset in compressor to encode clip and upload later manually.

It’s not codec that determines the outcome, it’s the control device, in your case sony HDV firewire, that enables hdv log and capture module. If you have aja or blackmagic installed you might try use them to capture your material into codec other than hdv, ProRes for instance.

I am afraid this is your only option. HDV log and capture module is different as you noted from traditional one.

One more question to get things really complicated. In my typical workflow I capture DV, edit natively, and output thru compressor to MPEG-2 for use in DVD Studio, skipping any QT exports. Would my video at the end of the day look any better if in fcp I changed compressor from DV to ProRes? I wanna make sure that we’re on the same page here: I do not export thru QT and then re-encode in Compressor. I send sequence to it. Does changing compressor type make any difference in this pipeline? Sorry if you answered this question thousand times before.Free-lance fcp editor in Moscow
