  • Sending PluralEyes Linked Video/Audio to Client

I have a client who had me record footage for an infomercial. He then had me ship the recorded footage to the editors in California to put into the main production.

I recorded video with a Canon 7D, recorded audio on an external recorder, then I sync the audio in FCP using PluralEyes software. I called these guys in California to confirm if this workflow would be alright. They confirmed “Oh, sure.” It seemed they didn’t really listen to me, for now they called and want me to resend all the footage synced up.

Since I already send the DVD’s with the raw footage and audio, can I now just send them my FCP project file with the PluralEyes sequence and have all the assets they already have work and link up?

I wanted to get any quick recommendations as I head into this.

    Thanks a ton.

Yes this works. I did it for a client just a week or two ago. Blew them away actually. Once you have all the clips synced on the time line, make sure and “link” the video to each audio file (cmd L) and then drag all of the newly linked files into a NEW bin and call it Synced files. Then all they need to do is open that FCP Project file, reconnect the media, and drag that bin into their project and they are golden.

    Hope this helps.

What exactly was their problem w/ synchronized footage you’ve sent to them? It’s not dependent on plural eyes. You can send them all assets to reconstruct project but as my own experience proves it this is a sure way to more problems and wasteful back and forth communications since clients are not mindful of all peculiarities of the project and your idiosyncrasies.

The only issue I see as potential problem would be syncing footage straight from the camera (raw H.246) versus that which would be brought into FCP with Log and Transfer.

I need to send them the raw stuff, as it is doable by DVD, whereas if I uncompress the stuff to ProRes 422, that is vastly much larger and gets to be impractical to mail to them on DVD’s.

Will things work fine do you think if I just “import” the raw files and sync them with audio, rather than doing the Log and Transfer, then send them the FCP Project file?

Thanks for this. Glad you’ve had experience with it.

For a large production house, I’m surprised they don’t or have refused to just buy Pluraleyes themselves.

“It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry; for this delicate little plant, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom; without this it goes to rack and ruin without fail. It is a very grave mistake to think that the engagement of seeing and searching can be promoted by means of coercion and a sense of duty.” — Albert Einstien
