I rented an EX1 for some shoots this week and can’t seem to import the footage to save my life. When I try to plug the SxS card directly into my MacBook it doesn’t show up at all. I plugged the camera in via USB and tried to use the clip viewer I can’t get any workable formats. I can get all the clips to show up in the preview window but when I select one and try to export I can’t get a “.mov”. None of the formats seem to be useful to FCP. I could select Raw DV but then I lose a lot of quality. Last time I had an EX1 I had the SxS cards that have SD cards inside and used a friend’s newer MacBook with built-in SD card reader to get the footage. It was really easy so I can’t figure out why this is troubling me so much. I shot the footage in PAL 1080 25p mode. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe you need to have XDCAM Transfer installed in order to work properly w/ SxS cards. Also you might need to have latest version of FAM driver. Check sony web site for available software.

OK… so first you, need the SxS card reader drivers installed on your laptop. . You can download them HERE then your card will mount on to your desktop when inserted.
Once you have this working you need to be able to bring the files into your editing application. You need to download the Sony XDCAM transfer software for this. You can download this HERE

If you are working with FCP and want to bring them in via Log and transfer you need to install THIS PlugIn for FCP

Hope this helps. It is a great workflow once you have all the necessary drivers and plug-ins installed.

    Good Luck!

Thank you so much! Was having so many issues importing from XDCAM Transfer but the plug in for FCP worked great and I was able to log and transfer all of it! Thanks
