    Hi Guys.
Hoping someone will be able to help please.
I’m trying to import a PSD with a layered transparent background into FCP.
Basically its the word “and” as rasterised type on a transparent layer.
I can get it into the timeline no problem but when I go to apply Coremelt Godrays (or any other filter) the effect only applies within a box bounded by the size of the word.
I’m suspecting there’s an alpha channel that I can switch off so the rays can extend out to the rest of the frame but I’ve done extensive searching and I can’t see my way around this problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

If you don’t need alpha channel, neither do you layers control, then why not to get rid of psd altogether. Simply make it mov file and apply any filter.

First, is your Photoshop canvas larger than the text or just the size of the text. See about adding some blank, transparent space around it. (Image -> Canvas Size) Give the canvas the same dimensions as your sequence.

Second, try applying your effect to the video layer on the nested sequence instead of on the new sequence FCP made – or dodge the issue by using another image format with alpha such as TIF or PNG. FCP won’t nest TIF or PNG.
