By the way, my timelines are around 2 hours long and I have about 4 of them. As you can image, this would take a long time to export between pauses!

To clarify, AME will only stop when I start editing, but isn’t there a way to edit while AME is encoding.? There must be. It’s hard for me to believe that in this day and with the software and hardware available that an editor would have to wait for something to finish encoding. Interesting how compressor could export while editing in final cut but not in premiere and AME. Even my Quadro 4000 installed didn’t make a difference to this.

Good points. I will try this.
The footage is h264 on premiere CS6.

Yeah, not sure why AME is pausing, you’d think on an 8-core that it could render and edit at the same time, otherwise what is point of having 8 cores…or 12 cores for that matter. To be honest, I am pretty disappointed with the slowness I am experience. Feels like hauling a big semi-truck up a hill to do anything, especially with dynamic link.

Hello Ivan,

No, this is just the project file itself and of course each autosave file. Is this normal for premiere.
I am getting increasingly more disappointed with the performance and even though I have a 12-core mac with 24 gigs of ram and a Quadro 4000, the performance is very poor and seems worse than editing on final cut on my laptop. Not sure why but premiere feels like a very heavy program on this computer.

I cannot even get though a full 3 minute sequence with a few effects without the video becoming choppy and the audio cutting out.

Hello,

I have 2×2.4 GHz Quad-Core
Configuration is as follows:

Raid 5 External Device for all Raw Footage
Raid 0 2x 1TB disks for preview files and project file
Mac Hard Drive for programs

I did a restart on my computer and the only program that is running now is premiere. It is extremely slow to save and takes about 5 seconds to begin playing upon pushing the play button. I am wondering if my Raid 0 hard drives are going bad. this problem just began yesterday but makes editing impossible.

Hopefully we can find a solution.

Hello Rainer,

I have 2 of these cards in my system at the moment so a total of 4 esata ports. Based on what you have mentioned does the slot number make a difference in performance and utilizing different hardware? Here is what my configuration looks like in order as displayed on mac system report.

Slot 1 ATI Radeon HD 5770 – Display Controller – Yes Driver installed
Slot 2 Quadro 4000 – Display Controller – Yes Driver Installed
Slot 2 NVDA, Parent – No Driver not installed
Slot 4 pic1b4b,91a4 – IDE Controller – No driver not installed
Slot 4 pci1b4b,9123 – AHCI Controller – Yes driver installed
Slot 3 pci1103,622 – Raid Controller – Yes driver installed

Let me know if this make sense.

Hello Pierre,

I had the same problem but once I upgraded my ram from 6gigs to 24gigs it was playing much smoother. Not saying that you need 24 gigs but maybe you need more than you currently have
Make sure you have enough ram in your system and you should see improvements. Seems like Ram improves playback as well as scrubbing. It also is important to make sure you are editing off a fast hard drive / raid for improved performance.

I don’t have an answer for you but I know what you mean. FCP had a nice linking systems that made it easy but it seems like even in premiere there is no search button for the clip, you have to type in the name.

Hey Amy,

This may be due to the codec you are using on your timeline.
Try changing your timeline settings codec to something like Proress and see if export will work without pixelation.

I had this problem when exporting XDCAM 35MB footage on an XDCAM codec timeline – The final film produced a random mosaic of square pixel. When I changed the timeline codec to proress it exported smoothly.

Interested to know if it worked for you.
