I am also experiencing a glitch after exporting as a quicktime movie. It is somewhat of a Mozaic glitch for one frame after each edit point. Have you ever experienced this Jerry? I am on a mac 8-core 2.4 GHz processor. In my case I am editing XDCAM 35 mb/s which was transcoded from H264 footage. It only seems to happen on this particular editing suite.
The only difference between this edit suite and my others is that my editing drive is stripped with 2 drives.

Hey Charlie,
I have also experienced the annoyance of a low quality menu playing in my HD blu-ray encore project. I found some what of a work around. It seems that every time I create a menu with encore it defaults to creating a 720×480 SD menu even in my blu-ray project and I have not found a way to change it. I am not sure why or how this happens but I did find a work around:
1. Create a blank photoshop file with the resolution of 1920×1080 and save it as a PSD
2. In Encore right click in the project gallery and select Import As > Menu > and select the menu you created in photoshop.
3. Now in Encore, click on the menu you created and in the motion tab of the properties window connect your video and audio pick whip to your video and audio assets.Finally a Bluray menu in HD!

If it is brighter you will be able to stop down the lens a bit which will give you a bit more room for your plane of focus. For run and gun I woul recommend using a zoom lens. A 16-35 2.8 may be good for you on the cropped sensor camera or you can also consider another zoom lens.

Keep in mind that there are many other things that factor into the quality of your interview such as what types of lights you use, what your background is, what your subject is saying and where they are looking. A 50mm 1.8 is not a bad lens. I would recommend testing a shot not completely wide open so you can see a bit of the background. Try shooting at F2, or F2.8.
Are you incorporating a 3 point lighting setup for your interviews?

I am not sure about this but I have seen other people do it with no problem. One question is why not live stream with a video camera with smooth zoom in and zoom out capabilities along with xlr inputs? I have shot full events before with DSLR where all footage had to be usable and it seems to have more drawbacks than benefits. I know we are in this mindset now as filmmakers that it is DSLR or nothing but I think it is important to remember what real video cameras were designed for.

Get a few good prime lenses would be a wise decision. A 35mm 1.4 and a 50mm 1.4 are good.
I always tell people that if you are going to go for a slow kit lens you might as well just shoot on a regular video camera: That way you can zoom in and out and have audio inputs!Errol X. Lazare
