With the rolling shutter on 5D for video, the image stabilizer is a must for me.
Are you speaking about IS for photos or DSLR Video?

Hey Tony,

In regards to video with the DSLR cameras it depends on how much a priority the video function is to you.
If you are mainly taking photos and love nikon you should stick to it, but if you are interested in having it become a camera that captures beautiful photos and high quality video than the Canon 5D Mark ii is the best option. I shoot with it and chose it because it shoots 1920x1080p at 24fps (same frame rate as film and it also shoot 1920x1080p at 30fps. This is my choice of camera but because of the functionality I need.

No no no.
That is way too big a file.

Ok what you need to do is search for MPEG Streamclip and download it. (It is free to download)

When you are in Mpeg Stream Clip, you will want to go to the top menu beside “file” and “edit” and find “list”

>Click on Batch List and simply drag all your files into the batch list.
>Make a home for your transcoded files to-be and then the movie exporter window will appear.

Put quality at 100% and find Proress format in the compression list.
In the list there are 2 Proress files. Be sure to select the bottom one as the top one will eat your computer and will take too long to render…not fun…but 5DMII proress files in final cut that are quick to render and playback beautifully…now that’s fun!

It should work. Usually you can play back 24fps footage in 30 fps timeline because it will interpolate the frame rate by duplicating 2 frames every 4 frames. The same applies when transcoding straight to 30 fps. Resolution shouldn’t make a difference as far as I know. I have converted one of my Canon 7d 24p files to apple intermediate codec 1280X720 at 30 fps at it looks good. Give me your email address and I will send you the test file along with the original.

For a great wide angle lens for the 7d I would recommend looking into the Tokina 11-16mm. A great lens at a very affordable price.

Hmm. I experienced this with titles that i made in AE and then brought to FCP. They Played fine in the viewer window in FCP, yet once I dropped them into a timeline that matched all the settings it strobed randomly. One setting I didn’t check was the codec. Apparently in my situation by exporting as an animation sequence and playing in a HDV1080p24 timeline, the video would strobe, so I exported from after effects using a 1080p24 codec. Not sure why this would be a factor but apparently it made a difference in my project and worked…A small detail and huge annoyance. If someone could give some insight of why the codec would make this defference, please let me know. I have exported animation codecs before and they have worked in an HDV1080P24 Timeline
