  • 100mm macro Image stabilizer worth rhe extra money?

    Hi All!
I’m planning to get a new Canon 100mm 2.8 macro since my FD lens works for macro only and it would be nice to have infinity focus. I’m confused if I should buy the IS version or not.
Now, has anyone used the IS version when it comes to filming macro?
I do a lot of slider type of shots so I’m wondering if the stabilization is making any difference and if it’s worth the extra money.

    Thank’s in advance!

I have the IS lens and it’s amazing. I had the regular 100 previously but I find the IS L version to be sharper. For handheld work the IS does really help just keep in mind the closer you get to 1:1 the IS has less of an effect/help. I also use the lens for interview type work as it’s tack sharp and the reach is nice for times when you want the camera farther away

With the rolling shutter on 5D for video, the image stabilizer is a must for me.
Are you speaking about IS for photos or DSLR Video?

    Thanks’s guys!
I’m using the 7D for professional work and I have tried my FD macro lens on my glide track but I get those “micro jerkiness” when I use it in full macro. I’m wonering if that will be reduced with IS.

It most likely will. I tried a test where I very finely shook my hand and the image floated very nicely
