I have a 2011 Mac Pro 8 Core with 32gigs of Ram and a Quadro 4000 card and Raid 5 but am still experiencing lagging performance editing even simple edits and photos in Premiere Pro when encore is encoding at the same time for DVD; in fact my whole mac slows down by 90%

To me this seems very unreasonable to not perform well even with the top end devices installed. I checked system activity while transcoding and editing and it is only using 9gigs of Ram.

The mouse, application dock and typing has also become laggy and delayed.

Can anyone shine any light on this problem and possible solutions?

    Hello,

    I have 2×2.4 GHz Quad-Core
    Configuration is as follows:

Raid 5 External Device for all Raw Footage
Raid 0 2x 1TB disks for preview files and project file
    Mac Hard Drive for programs

I did a restart on my computer and the only program that is running now is premiere. It is extremely slow to save and takes about 5 seconds to begin playing upon pushing the play button. I am wondering if my Raid 0 hard drives are going bad. this problem just began yesterday but makes editing impossible.

Hopefully we can find a solution.

Do the RAID controllers have diagnostic utilities? As a start, try to run a speed test on the arrays. Here’s an app, if required.

    Blackmagic Disk Speed Test
