I’m another M100 convert (about 10 years on M100) This was the best thing I’ve ever done. No regets at all. I’m cutting faster and better than I ever have before. Love all the plug-ins for FCP, the workflow from FCP to compressor to DVD, seamless. Just do it.

You could save time by getting some pre-built abstract backgrounds. I use some from Digital Juice and they work pretty well.

Don’t forget that you need quite a bit more space than the actual digitize amount. With graphics, audio elements, rendered EFX etc. You will fill up drives pretty fast. And the most important part is that most drives run slower when they get past 3/4 full. So, be careful not to run low on storage, you might get playback issues from the drives.

Back about 10-15 years ago, this local guy out here in Denver came up with a brilliant invention. He created overlays of different sizes that you could place on the screen of a computer. They were generic pictures of average PC screens (Word documents) You turn the computer off and place these over the screens and they looked like the computer is on! Worked great. Especially in large offices where you might see 3 or 4 PC’s. As many times the PC’s were all running at different frame rates.

I didn’t think of that. With the built-in and plug-in color corrector being so good in edit systems, I didn’t think many went out of house anymore. I thought you were on-lining the old fashioned way.

Are you really going to a linear system to finish? I thought all the CMX’s were gathering dust.

If you add a filter like flicker, it will effect the entire shot and look funny on a person. You could create a freeze frame of the scene and then crop it into the monitor. If the shot moves, then you need to track the screen in a program like After-effects. If it goes behind the person, then you need to create a moving matte. There isn’t an instant fix for a moving shot.

It could as simple as a drop/non-drop frame issue. Are you cuttting in one format and doing AF in another?

Check ebay for used monitors. I bought a used top-of-the-line JVC VMR19OSU monitor for $70!!!! And it works flawlessly. Guys are dumping NTSC monitors left and right.

Just a thought, when you deleted the files on your external, did you empty the trash? They won’t be deleted until you do.
