I would highly recommend monitoring out the Io with component. The picture quality using compoent vs. S or composite is night and day. Plus, when clients see the improved picture quality, you look so much more professional! If you don’t have a monitor with component in/thru connections, it might well be worth finding one. (I just bought a $2K, 19″ monitor on ebay for under $100!!! People of giving them away now with HD taking over.

What resolution do have your 30″ set at? I use my 30″ set at 2560×1600 and it works for me. I was using 2 x 20″ CRT’s before and this is much cleaner and faster. You could always hook-up another monitor for more real estate.

I’ve been happy with my Apple 30″. I had 2, 21″ CRT monitors and this is way better. Easier to work with. Plenty of visual real estate for lots of bins, timelines etc. And it’s killer for After-Effects and Photoshop, where you can use the whole screen the work with. Personally, I wouldn’t go back to duals for editing.

You first have to decide whether you want to ‘run’ the system for a little while or just enough time to save and safely shutdown the system. If you want to run for a while and wait out the power outage, then you need a serious UPS. (A 2250W/3000 VA Unit would give you about 10-15 minutes of full power ) If you just want about 5 minutes to save your work, then you should be OK with an APS 1000 or more size UPS. I’ve run an APC 1400 with a G5 DP 1.7, 2 x 21″ CRTS’s, 5 Drive RAID sytsem, 4 FW drives with no problems.
FYI: I’ve bought 3 or 4 different units from these guys and they are both cheap and work perfectly. Recommended.

How does the video card effect editing performance? The processers handle the number crunching and most video is displayed by some sort of Kona/Blackmagic box or PCI card. Are you talking about using for example, dual Mac’s monitors for editing and video display? What advantages does a better video card give you?

Jeremy, that’s for ideas too. It was easy to just change the user setting for duration to 1 frame and re-import them. Then, I just selected them all and dragged them right to the timeline. Bingo, perfect animation! I then exported them as a By-reference, self-contained movie to create a single clip to ease moving it around.
