DVD storage, compressing for television?
Hi,
Recently a local Public Broadcasting Station asked to use some of my short pieces (3-5 Min) for fillers between movies. They wanted them on DVD’s. The problem is, the person in charge of the project that I made these for doesnt understand the technical aspect and didnt ask the right questions. Anyhow, all that said, I just figured they want them as uncompressed QT files. This is a delema, they still end up over 6 gigs! I would normally just print them to a DV tape then let the station deal with them.
My question is, what would be a great codec to compress them that will not loose much quality?

You could always put them on a removable Firewire drive and have them copy them.

I was thinking of that, it would definately be a good choice. This is WYES here in New Orleans. They got wiped out in the flood and really have just gotten things back up and running.

You should probably ask them what system they’re outputting from and what format that is…MPEG is typical for digital transmission.
If you can get the specs up front for what sort of file specs they need, you could use ProCoder or some other software you own to compress the file and really scrutinize the quality to the extent you can.
