Just a quick story, but I was up in the artic circle two years ago and my Varicam F didn’t like it too much. Well, the high was -40. The video turned green after about 15 minutes exposed to that temp. But luckily, we weren’t on busy schedule and was able to shoot short spurts outside. I turned green too! I do remember blinking a bit and my eye froze shut. That’s cold!

One way is turn it into a WMV file. That seems to be a good quality, codec that most people corporte clients can view. There are many brands of software that will do that. Flip4Mac Episode, Cleaner etc. But if you have a PC laying around, I learned this trick from an animator friend and it’s free!
Export from FCP as an un-compressed AVI file. Then use a PC’s built-in Windows ‘MovieMaker’ software to create WMV files. They work great and even better than some of my WMV files I created on my Mac. Sometimes those PC guys come-up with a good idea – haha.

I’ve had it happen too. You’re not alone. Relinking fixes it, but I agree it’s a pain when it happens. And worst is when it does it and you don’t catch it until your in the middle of laying to tape!

There are many plug-ins (Nattress is one) that simulate the effect. But if you want something cheap and free. Export the clip out of FCP using “Quicktime Conversion” Then, under Option-Filter-Special Effects, you can add some a film hair/dirt effect that’s not too bad. Combine that with color correction in FCP and possibly some speed adjustment (Old 8mm always seems sped-up a bit) it might just work for free.

How about better smooth keyframes on motion moves, like AE ‘Easy Ease’ and clip naming while digitizing.

You can export out of FCP as an AVI file. Just export using the Export-Quicktime Conversion menu. Then under Format, change to AVI. Then under AVI settings, set the video settings to None (Uncompressed) Also, make sure you change the depth to Millions.
