[Jeremy Garchow] “Erik Naso] “A side note. I must be a tad dense since it took me a few hours to figure out that the SDI inputs don’t go direct into the KL-Box. Grrrrrr.”
What do you mean by that?
I have a DVCPRO deck I haven’t used before and it has SDI so I wanted to use it since its the best I can get out of the deck. I have a serial to USB cable and that worked great for deck control and timecode. I was connecting only one cable into the KL-Box SDI input on the front of the box not knowing that the I needed to connect another into the card and behind the KL-Box SDI input. I was assuming that the SDI inputs go thru the big one cable. Not. I was fussing with the menu on the deck and the Aja control panel and finally gave up. Then today as if I woke up from a deep sleep it came to me in seconds and hooked it up right. Live and learn or read the darn instructions.

Strange. My house alarm keeps going off since I updated.

I purchased the JVC DT-V24L1U two weeks ago and I’m very happy with it. Out the door $2000.00 from Amazon next day with prime. I dont think you can get a better or equal HD LCD for the same cost as the JVC. I opted to not get the HD-SDI model. That one is $1500.00 more.

This appears to be one of those 10 bit render bugs. If you switch your sequence rendering to 8 bit YUV or RGB, it renders correctly. 10 bit and it doesn’t work properly…
Patrick thanks. That did the trick! That is one heck of a plugin. Its coming in handy on this project I’m working on.
Thanks again.Erik Naso

The Kona 3 has SDI inputs only. The LH and LHe have both Analog and SDI ins and outs. I have the LH card on a G5 and couldn’t be happier. You just have to know what you need in the card before you buy one. For now the LH is all I need. Aja website is pretty good. Look at both cards features and see if the LH version has what you need. The price difference is high so If you can justify the cost of the Kona 3. Go for it.

I made a new preset for in compressor. QT 16×9 and that worked pretty well. Im sending a test clip to them to see if they can import it. It was pretty quick in the conversion of a 30 sec. clip so I hope a batch of several wouldn’t take to long to do.
After soing several conversions my results are not good. I get a lot of jaggies or wavy lines in the QT video. Any settings I should try?

There’s no need to do the downconverting in FCP. Export a HD QT file and take it directly to DVD Studio Pro.
Also, I’d suggest authoring this in 16×9. When viewed on a 4×3 TV, the DVD Player will automatically do the letterboxing.
I tried this and the end result looked bad. Lots of jaggies in the movement. I have been at this for hours and cant get anything usable. HELP!!!

April 6, 2008 at 12:08 am in reply to: Exported QTR of HD footage in SD sequence not good.Thanks. Im trying this now. One question. My goal here is to deliver a letterbox version of my project to a cable company that wants this video on a DVD. They are going to edit the video I give to them. If it wasn’t HD this would be easier. This is not a very good way to give video for broadcast but thats what they want so I need to make it for them as requested. I don’t know if I’m making this more difficult than it needs to be by using DVDSP but if I could just get the video on a dvd without the menus and such that would be great. I did try idvd but that looked bad from the SD sequence. Should I just get a dvd recorder and burn it that way. I could just hook it up to my kona card and play the sequence out of FCP. What do you think would be the best way.

April 2, 2008 at 5:54 am in reply to: Huge price drop on JVC DTV24L1U 24-Inch MultiFormat LCD MonitorWell for me I don’t have any HD monitoring. I have to use a down converted signal from my kona card for HDV or any other HD signal. Do you know of a 1080 broadcast HD monitor for a better price. If so let me know. This has been a problem for so long and it seems to me that the prices are going down now to the level that makes it affordable to have a full 1080 broadcast monitor. Sure HD SDI inputs are better but that model from JVC cost $1500.00 more.
