capture DVCPRO footage as DVCPR50

June 10, 2008 at 4:16 amWith Avid Xpress I capture mostly in dv50 even the stuff that was shot with a DVCPRO25 camera. Graphics and footage do look better with the higher resolution in the OMF format. I was wondering if I should be doing this with Final Cut as well, inputing thru SDI into my Kona LH card set for DVCPRO50. I have some beta footage that was dubbed over to dvcpro so its not the best for testing so wanted to see what others might think.
Thanks.
Erik
A side note. I must be a tad dense since it took me a few hours to figure out that the SDI inputs don’t go direct into the KL-Box. Grrrrrr.

Same rules apply to FCP.

What do you mean by that?

I have a DVCPRO deck I haven’t used before and it has SDI so I wanted to use it since its the best I can get out of the deck. I have a serial to USB cable and that worked great for deck control and timecode. I was connecting only one cable into the KL-Box SDI input on the front of the box not knowing that the I needed to connect another into the card and behind the KL-Box SDI input. I was assuming that the SDI inputs go thru the big one cable. Not. I was fussing with the menu on the deck and the Aja control panel and finally gave up. Then today as if I woke up from a deep sleep it came to me in seconds and hooked it up right. Live and learn or read the darn instructions.

Got ya. Although a wireless KBox would be cool!
