I have a bit of a blown highlight issue with a few clips in prores and was wondering if anyone has any fix ideas for it. I have tried a plugin that Patrick Sheffield wrote called Captains Blowout Fixer that works really well but it wont work on prores clips. I wish I could post a frame grab. If you know of any plugins that I could get or a fix idea that would be great.

    Thanks.

This appears to be one of those 10 bit render bugs. If you switch your sequence rendering to 8 bit YUV or RGB, it renders correctly. 10 bit and it doesn’t work properly…

Use the 3W CC in FC. Tweak just the highlights.

..and always a big mess on top of the table.

    Rafael,

That can help, but it works completely different from the Blowout fixer, which uses channel information from a different channel to restore the image in the blowout. Quite amazing really.

    Have a wonderful day.

Patrick thanks. That did the trick! That is one heck of a plugin. Its coming in handy on this project I’m working on.
    Thanks again.

I’ll second that. I’ve been using Patrick’s blowout fixer and digital makeup artist plugins on my current project. Not enough consideration was given to the softness and ratio of the lighting for a host on green screen (which is a huge part of the program). Without these plugins I really don’t think I could get back to a “look” that’s appropriate to the content (instructional).

    Thanks Patrick!
