Yup. But my point is since the new models came out the price on the refurbed former models stayed the same. I would think since they are former models the price would have gone down even more.

I’m in the same boat as you with a PPC dual. I’m Working with proRes HD files and the rendering is a killer. I hope rendering in general would be faster with the new systems. Doing a 10 sec. segment with two tracks of titles and a background takes around 10 minutes to render. Painfull.
The Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” is the one I want to get and put 16 gigs of RAM in from OWC.
I am surprised that the refurb price for the old models are so high. The 2.8 is $2800.00 and the 3.2 is $4100.00. I dont get that.

February 1, 2009 at 5:44 pm in reply to: Power Mac G5 worth the upgrade?

I have a G5 duel 2.5 with the 6gigs of ram and a ATI x800 graphics card. FCP S2 runs fine. Its the rendering in HD and compressing thats the killer. I want to upgrade but would need to upgrade everything. AJA card, Esata card ect. Big money. So slower is a go for now. I would think if you are only doing SD you should be good to go.

  • I believe OWC has a a sale on some Dell 24″.

Don’t know if this matches any other prices. I get a email blast from OWC and this one was part of it.

    Good luck

July 5, 2008 at 3:11 pm in reply to: OS X 10.5.4 out today

I updated to Leopard last night on my G5. Haven’t installed Final Cut Studio 2 yet.
I’m at 10.5.2 and QT 7.4.1. What version updates are safe on a G5?

It works. I do it all the time.

look on page 109 of your manual for info on connecting to a computer. This should fix your problem. Since you didn’t mention what format you recoded its harder to answer.

    IN MENU
    HDV= video output set {PLAYBACK STD} to {HDV} and {HD DOWN-CONV} TO {OFF}

IN FINAL CUT USE HDV EASY SETUP WITH HDV FIREWIRE BASIC.

    Good Luck

[Jeremy Garchow] “You have to trash your prefs after you delete them. They will then disappear. “

    That did the trick. thanks

I fixed the issue. here is the fix for future reference.

    Delete the Kona Preferences:
    a) Go to: /library/preferences and delete
    com.aja.KonaPreferences.plist.
    b) Go to: /users/username/library/preferences/ and delete
    com.aja.KonaControlPanel.plist.
    c) Reboot and then reset the Kona Control Panel parameters.
