I made several samples with compressor and found the results are pretty good quality wise. With Frame controls all set to best and geometry to 1920X1080. The video comes out stretched. I adjusted with distort in motion tab to 80 and it looks right. Then tried padding for 4:3 and that added pillarbars that I could crop out. So it looks like this is my options. Any suggestions? Has anyone used Instant HD? Is it worth the money or does compressor work just as well?

This is a paid program that will be delivered to several different cable markets and local stations. I definitely want to keep it in HD and if SD is needed then do letterboxed or center cut version. I don’t have the Kona 3 only the Kona LHe. I knew I should have bought the Kona 3 but its so darn expensive.
I tried a few prores transcodes with compressor that looked pretty good but it cropped the top and still stretched it when imported into project. I used distort in the motion tab but not sure if that is the best way. I really want to keep the SD footage in 4:3 and not crop. Getting closer.https://www.mediaartproductions.com

Thanks Jerry.
I will look at tape. I have a feeling its going to be pricey, My main goal is to at least have a backup of some kind in case my RAID has a problem. I capture HDV as Prores during ingest so recapturing isn’t possible. That is one big down side to this method. However working with ProRes is so much better. I need to think of it like P2 or solid state media. Maybe I should search around for what folks that use these types of media do to back up and use that method.https://www.mediaartproductions.com

I have three of those drives coming in tomorrow. I to will put them in my Macpro. The reason for me is to have a back up of the media RAID0 in place for my Burly 5 bay that has worked great for the last year. I have five 1.5TB drives in the Burly in a RAID0. What is a good way to set this up? Software back up or different RAID setup.
Thanks

That worked pretty well. Thanks. Not as easy as it was with Avid but works.

I just received my new mac pro and it came installed with quicktime 7.6 I have 7.5.5 on my G5 and all is well. I’m I going to have issues with transferring my Studio 2 projects over too the new Mac Pro?

I have the same G5 and I capture prores at HD rez all the time. Kona card installed but I use firewire from my camera.
HD editing in general is tougher with the G5 but SD is a breeze.
