    Hi,

can you use the Ati 1900 for the GUI and put an extra Ndvidia in for cuda? Would this work (well)?

  • Great Tip! Thanks Sascha!

  • How is that possible? I got the same machine and I don´t see the whole program-window because the screen resolution is just 1440X900… Cannot move it to a second display either…
But I can say that it runs, yes. Though it gives me a warning that the cuda driver is missing on startup…

Actually you can capture ProRes with a G5. We have a dual 2,3 Ghz Model with a Lhe and do that all the time. But we only use it for capturing Digi-Beta SD-Stuff to ProRes (SQ)
However the G5 is probably too slow to capture HD in ProRes with the AjA board, though I never really tested it. (But it works over firewire for HDV sources)
But I´m not sure about the Kona 2. Does it really support ProRes?? You probably then have a PCI-X machine as Gary points out. Not sure about that, but our “late” G5 PCIe-Model does the Trick 😉

I wouldn´t try running 6.06 on Snow in the first place, but you probably got a new machine with Snow installed on it, right?

I got this with the LHe and the 7.1 driver on a G5-Machine. Sometimes freezed the machine even when booting up, but mostly when starting log/capture. (this is on a absolutly clean install)
I deinstalled the driver and went back to 6.5 – no problems anymore…

    The firmware now is: 2008/12/17
The footage was captured on another machine with the “HDV to ProRes”-Easy Setup.
    It is 1440×1080 25fps Apple ProRes 422
On the editing-machine we used the AJA 1080i 25 ProRes 422 Easy-Setup for the project. With that we have no Preview. Only when stopped or during scrubbing we see a picture.
When we switch the display-settings to 1080i 8 bit, it works though, but we have crackeling sound…
I also uninstalled & reinstalled the 7.0 driver.
Or is the HDV-ProRes conversion the culprit? It was done with the proper easy setup though…

    Hey Gary,

appreciate that you are still up 🙂
Just updated the firmware, it was already the 64bit Version but it was still outdated (I wasn´t aware there was a newer one)

But the problem persists: No Preview with 10bit Display-Setting, only works with 8bit…

BTW: I´m not recompressing to UC, I stay ProRes. It´s just the display-setting (in FCP)

    Hi,

you can capture ProRes (SQ) from SD sources with an dual G5 2,3.
This is with 8 gb Ram and a Kona LHe.
We use this machine in our everyday workflow. A quad should do the job easiliy.

February 11, 2009 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Compressor is slower when using Qmaster

I have managed to set up compressor-clusters on single computers to use all the cores in the past.
But now I´m failing to set up a cluster with different Macs in a network.
I want to use a cluster for compressor with a G5 Dual a Mac Pro Quad and an iMac (intel dual core) together.
They are all connected via gigabit ethernet with an airport.
    How should the settings be?
Is there a tutorial on the cow?
