February 9, 2013 at 8:39 am in reply to: Sony FS 700 slow motion and external recorderYou have to set the sdi-output to 1080i on the camera. then you can record it with a recorder even without 3G SDI, like the samurai.
I testet it myself with the samurai, it has to be set to HD-SDI / TC-Run and then it detects the output of the buffer and records it automatically.
But: This way you are recording interlaced Material!
For progressive you need a 3G-SDI capable recorder, like the gemini or the sounddevice PIX -
interesting Idea though….
would it work with two iMacs connected via thunderbolt?? -
skimming is great, agreed. But why cant you skim in the viewer?? If you load a clip in the viewer, you still have to move the mouse to your project bin + find the clip to skim through it!!
Come on, thats bull….!! -
You can do it with the new Sony XDCAM “Content-Browser 1.1”. It comes with an export module, which works more or less like you were used to in FCP7, when exporting a sequence to xcdam disc.
But you don´t have to write the mxf on a disc. You can point it to a Harddrive also and then upload it. -
Hi,
when you have to buy the aja Hi 5 for connections, the dreamcolor is in the same price-range as a FSI-Monitor, which is a “real” monitor. Is the color-reproduction on the HP so much better to justify spending my money on it anyway?
I think a lot of you guys have seen both. so how do they compare? (color-wise)

this whole XDCam thing is half-baked, if you ask me…
I´m glad our clients move on faster (than Sony) and we will deliver our masters only via upload soon.
No Disc or Tape-fuss anymore… and expensive units that are crap and useless in the first place

Hi Jeremy,
I´m sorry to say that myself, but there seems no way to output to XDCAM-Disc without final cut.
At least not on the mac-platform. XDCAM-Browser didn´t help either.

I´m able to use compressor to make an XDCAM File from ProRes. But Compressor 3.5 ironically only gives you the option to make an XDCAM file with Stereo-Audio, which is unsupported on XDCAM disc. However you can change that manually if you need to.
But I don´t now how to start the XDCAM-Export PLugin without FCP.
So far, I only used Sony Transfer to get files in – but how do you export files to disc with it?
Where is the button ;-)?? -
Hi Jeremy,
so it works like I´m used to from FCP 7 ?
Timeline>export to Sony xdcam>render>burn to pdw-u1??
…that would be fine
