thanks for your answer Bob,

the reason for all of this is I´d like to be able to switch with the two remote buttons on the vtr between two editing stations connected to the Rs422 and the 50p on the Vtr. so we could use the vtr with both editing rooms without the need for patchpanels or pluggin/unplugging cables and gain a very convenient way to control it.
Do you know of any boxes or cables that translate the konas signal to the 50p?
(For the RS232 there is no designated switch on the vtr. If I would use that port would it override any signal on the RS422? The VTR is a DVW-M2000P)

Though I never used mainconcept much since we migrated from PC to Mac. But it was “the” encoder for the PC-platform. its now vailable for mac too.
We encoded DVDs with that software ten years ago with far better results than compressor today, imho.
Epsiode and lately cinemacraft (for Mpeg encoding only) look promising too

Also MainConcept Reference just came out. from a renowed german codec developer. now also runs on mac.
great evaluation-concept too: you get all the codecs with the demo. later you can buy just the ones you need for your purposes.
