I´m seeing this too. Both on G5 and a Mac Pro. It goes away when you shut down the computer, then reboot. A simple reboot is not enough.
It seems to be a problem since 6.0 (I think) -
Hi,
make sure in your aja control panel: timecode burn-in is set to “off”.
precode your tape with the vtr-controls. then edit to tape. should work fine -

Strange, for me it was the other way around. edit to tape locked up my system every time with 6.0, went back to 5.1 now it works again.

I have a similar issue here with our G5 (PCI-Express)
I´m running leopard since a couple of months on it with zero problems.
However since I installed LHe-Driver 6.0. It locks up the mac totally when I go to edit to tape in FCP. Otherthings work well!!??
Going back to 5.1 solved the issue. Didn´t contact any any Aja since I´m in germany.CU

I would suggest you get the aja system test (or decklinks) and test your media drive with it. then disconnect everything except the media drive and check again
do you see a difference in performance?
please post the numbers here.
If you have no perfomance-problems with your drive it must be something else… -
do you have any other stuff on the firewire-port?
even if you connect it to the fw400-port the fw800port will drop to lower speed -
What about the late MacBookPro?
It uses a Geforce 8600, is that quartz-extreme? -
