  • Tried the new AJA software upgrade?

Has anyone tried the new software upgrades from AJA? They’re such a great company I assume they have taken care of some issues that they had with one or more HD codecs. But this software is so central to my work I’m a bit nervous about upgrading before hearing some reports — you know: From you folks who love the bleeding edge!

They’ve released new software for Io HD, KONA, XENA and FS1. I’m interested in the Kona 3.

    WooHoo,

Good timing here Ron, there’s an update for the LH too, and I have to make some dubs through one this afternoon, so thanks!

    Have a wonderful day.

I suspect it will work fine for you, knowing the AKA crowd. Let us know how it goes.

Actually they don’t. You might want to read the Kona forum. Lots of threads with problems on K3’s, LH’s etc. In fact, It’s a bit unscientific, but I’ll have to look again… I don’t recall seeing anybody post that they didn’t have an issue.

I have not installed it on any machines yet. I’m waiting for 6.1. Frankly, given that all of these issues were already here on the COW, I was a bit surprised to see it released at IBC with so much fanfare…

Here is a repost of what I wrote on the AJA forum:

Just a quick note of warning that I had all kinds of problems after I upgraded to IOHD Driver Version 6.0. Running FCP 6.0.3 on an Intell 8 processor with OSX 10.5.2. Don’t know if this is specific to my setup or if it’s a more general problem. The new driver version did fine playing back my FCP timeline, but wouldn’t accept any video from Log and Capture. I had a long (90 miinute) very helpful phone call with AJA tech support (they always impress me), but despite numerous strategies we weren’t able to figure out the problem. Among other things that happened, as soon as I opened the Log and Capture window, the IO frame buffer would switch from 29.97 (which everything in FCP was set to) to 23.98. I finally did an uninstall of Driver 6 and went back to Driver ver 5.1.2 – and now everything is working fine again.

Thanks for the feedback here. Version X.0 of software. I’m not a coder but I guess it must be awfully hard to get that stuff right.

Mitch is correct. Lot’s of people have had problems with 6.0 (myself included). I would wait for 6.1.

    Well,

I haven’t been able to Edit to Tape with 5.1 drivers for two months. This afternoon I put in 6.0 and everything went back to normal, I made 8 station dubs all of which were perfect, so go figure. OS 10.5.4 QT 7.5.

    Have a wonderful day.
