There was also topics where keeping it native as in not using Optimize footage to be a better workflow.
I wish I can do that but I work mostly with R3D > ProRes clips.

Past problems way before the recent updates tend to screw up data used in both versions.
Now it doesnt.
However, keep FCPX at its latest version to avoid that.
Now this is on SL not Lion.
I havent tried FCP in Lion to date.

or make a copy and open on another system?

Hey your a trooper for trying 😉
I get a chance to teach the app to newbies and seasoned legacy users.
So its a challenge when the problems come up but most have shrugged it off as “growing pains”.
Sure its not our main NLE at my shop but its still used daily for a lot of other things that dont require XDCAM finishing or any older output.

Just another tool in our arsenal and a cheap one to boot 😉

When we used ours they just sent me a passcode.
Im sure other vendors do it differently.
Now the fear of upgrading our MC plug-ins 😛
