VF files are your PROJECT files. Basically an edit decision list. They do not contain the actual video, just pointers to the video. If you File – Open and pick one of those files, it should open fine.

I’ve found how to duplicate that channel onto the other side (using Audacity) so I have mono sound on both left and right. While I’m at it, I use Audacity to remove background buzz. Works great. But when I put the audio back in, it appears slightly longer than it did before (and longer than the video) and it is out of sync.”
You don’t need to leave Vegas. Just right-click the audio on the timeline, go to Switches, Channels, and then select “Left” or “Right” depending on which channel the audio is on. That channel will then go out both sides.

Open Pan/Crop for that generated media, right-click the displayed image, and choose “Match Output Aspect”.

You could try Color Fixer Plus in NewBlue Video Essentials.

In XP, you right-click a blank area, choose properties, and check the “auto hide” box. After you’re done, go through the same process to turn off “auto hide”.

Use Pan/Crop or maybe the Jitter option in Film Effects.

If you want to run a 64-bit version of Vegas, I’d upgrade to Vegas Pro 9 as I’ve seen many issues with 8.1.

That’s why I mentioned it being an advantage in the pro version. In Movie Studio, you get to do it by hand – one at a time.

That’s one of the advantages of using the Pro version. A script can easily do what you’re wanting but scripts aren’t supported in the Movie Studio versions.
