Yes, in some cases it is necessary to actually delete the Excalibur 4 folder. Two of the file names changed to prevent some other conflicts. Exiting Vegas before uninstalling and reinstalling will also help.

Recommendation: Use it for the small section that needs this effect. Then render that out to a new DV-AVI file. Now add this to your main project which does not require a “Multiply” track. Or, I guess, you could just add a White Generated Media to the rest of that track! Or maybe add more tracks ABOVE the mask track for the rest of the project – with unlimited tracks, that’s always a possibility.

While I haven’t used Movie Studio, here’s how it works in Vegas.
To create a crossfade, simply overlap the clips (I’m sure this is the same in Movie Studio)
To place a specific transition over multiple crossfades, just select all the clips and drag the transition to one of the crossfades. It will then be applied to the rest of the selected crossfades as well.

Try a different firewire cable? Does it work with a different camera? It’s possible that you have a bad firewire cable or a partially bad firewire port.

Sounds to me like a slight head alignment problem. Are you capturing from the same camera that recorded the tape? If not, try that next.

Vegas is not designed to run on a MAC.

2) Some issues with Excalibur 4 not putting the tally in the right spot (this is probably just something funky in my project anyway).
If you can make this repeatable, I’d love to know how. I’d also like to know if it’s still off after running the Tally Update Wizard. Finally, make sure you’re running one of the SMPTE rulers.
