Anything that changed must be rendered before printing to tape. However, this may or may NOT be a very long process – just depends on what you’ve done to the video. For example, if you are starting with DV-AVI and you’ve simply chopped out some sections and added some dissolves, only the dissolves will be rendered which is a very fast process. However, if you’ve applied multiple effects to every event, then every frame must be rendered. So, yes, there will be some rendering time involved if you do more that straight cuts of DV-AVI. To me, the rendering time has not been an issue.
