but I’m not sure about it. I have a Canopus Rex now – and I like not having to render the entire thing before playback. Am I misunderstading that I must render the project before playback with Vegas? I like alot of the features that I read about so far with Vegas but I’m still undecided. Any advice/comments/info would be really appreciated. (good and bad!)

    thanks!

Anything that changed must be rendered before printing to tape. However, this may or may NOT be a very long process – just depends on what you’ve done to the video. For example, if you are starting with DV-AVI and you’ve simply chopped out some sections and added some dissolves, only the dissolves will be rendered which is a very fast process. However, if you’ve applied multiple effects to every event, then every frame must be rendered. So, yes, there will be some rendering time involved if you do more that straight cuts of DV-AVI. To me, the rendering time has not been an issue.

Since you’re a Canopus user alredy, I’d suggest you take a good look at Edius with their new realtime hardware – much more powerful realtime and full realtime HDV support for the future.

We are not having good luck with the newest version of Vegas and realtime – audio and video playback is worse than older versions even on a dual 3.4 Xeon. Hopefully Sony can get all the bugs worked out, but they are quickly falling behind the rest of the NLE’s.

Hm, I would be very careful, looking at the ridiculously cheap prices (Vegas 6 for $20!)this would have to be pirate software.
