  • [wompoo] “How does one move their work in an unrendered format to another computer? I am beginning to think this is not possible with sony vegas movie studio…”

An easy way to do it would be to put everything on an external drive. Then you can just carry the drive to the other machine. Just make sure EVERYTHING related to that project is on the external drive.

There was a problem with earlier version of Vegas 6 where, after a period of time, vidcap would no longer open. Installing 6.0c should solve that issue.

That’s not very pracitcal if you have a lot of DV footage. DV-AVI is roughly 13Gig per hour. If you had a couple hours worth of footage, that would be at least 6 DVDs just for footage. I find it easier to just recapture from the tapes.

The vmf file is only the definition of the cuts and dissolves you have made and a list of the events on the tracks. It does NOT contain any of your video or audio clips (but SHOULD contain everything necessary for the generated media).

Since you have the VMF file, it should be easy to restore the project. Just recapture the clips used the by that project and all should be back to normal.

I think I’d try reinstalling Vegas first.

  • Add keyframes to the track to change the size of each individual image as required.

    ……….image 1…………………image 2
    Keyframe 1…….keyframe 2 keyframe 3

Your first keyframe would set the size for image 1. At the end of that image you’ll set a second keyframe so it will remain at the original size. You then (perhaps 1 frame later) add another keyframe setting the size for the next image.

If you wish to keep everything at the event level, you can try Pan/Crop instead to resize and position the images.

No, you disk size would NOT be much worse. Yes, DV-AVI will be much larger (roughly 13 Gig per hour). However, the DVD Authoring program will convert that back to MPEG2 at the proper bitrate so that it will, once again, fit on the DVD. If you can’t specify the bitrate in VMS to get the file small enough, I was suggesting letting DVDA set the proper bitrate based on the length of the AVI file.

November 22, 2005 at 3:24 pm in reply to: Rendering issue with MPG2 files..

When starting with MPEG2 files – EVERY FRAME will be decompressed. There is no way for Vegas to go from MPEG2 to MPEG2 without decompressing and recompressing every frame. So there’s no way “to ‘tell’ Vegas not to recompress when possible“.

There are some programs that will let you split and combine MPEG2 files, though. Take a look at Womble. This would let you do “cuts only” editing and would also prevent the recompression.

[Holywood] “Most specifically, is a package like Cineform Connect HD necessary, desirable, or a waste of money for the capture process?”

    Necessary: No

Desireable: Maybe – one ability it adds is scene detection while capturing. It can also create the proxies while capturing.

Waste of Money: Not if you want the extra abilities it adds.

[Holywood] “but would like to know best workflow for working with Vegas 6 and HDV from capture through render.”

Don’t necessarily know the “best” workflow but here’s one that’s common:

    1) Capture as m2t
    2) Create ConnectHD or DV-AVI proxies
    3) Edit with the Proxies
    4) When done, substitute the original m2t for the proxies
    5) Render

A product called “Gearshift” can help with the creation and substituting of the proxies.
