  • Creating PhotoMontage with a Split screen comprised of 2 Images

I’m a newbie so forgive me. I’m trying to create a photo montage of my fiancee and myself to show at our rehearsal dinner and reception. I want to have a picture of her next to a picture of me so that it looks like a split screen. I will have music with the pictures. I need help in figuring out how to place two images side by side to get the split screen look. Any help on how to do this if it is possible would be greatly appreciated. I’m using Vegas 6. Thanks!!!!!

Put one picture on track 1 and the other picture on track 2. Now use “Track Motion” on both tracks to resize and position as desired.

Ok that works fine but the problem I’m now having is that not all of my pictures are the same size. So for example on track 1 the first picture looks good so I add a second picture to track 1 next to the first picture. This picture now looks too small b/c it is only filling the footprint of the first picture. How can you adjust for the sequential pictures? I looked in to the pan/zoom options for each photo but can’t seem to find a way to accomplish the smaller size. Thanks again…I read all of your newsletters and found them to be very helpful.

Add keyframes to the track to change the size of each individual image as required.

    ……….image 1…………………image 2
    Keyframe 1…….keyframe 2 keyframe 3

Your first keyframe would set the size for image 1. At the end of that image you’ll set a second keyframe so it will remain at the original size. You then (perhaps 1 frame later) add another keyframe setting the size for the next image.

If you wish to keep everything at the event level, you can try Pan/Crop instead to resize and position the images.

One of the powers of Vegas is its ability to work with these kind of scenarios very easily.

As Ed has mentioned, keyframes will be your answer – alternatively, by disabling the “sync cursor” function (the one with the I and lock in the event pan crop window) you can change the size of the image by dragging the corners of the image so as to resize to the exact size you want- this option will change the size for the entire period the picture is viewed.

By adding keyframes in the Event Pan Crop window, you can make the image change size/position over time – something many users use when doing photomontages

    Cheers
