You could try several of the Stylize effects (Effect/Stylize/…), in particular the Stylize/Find Edges. This is with After Effects Pro Edition, version 7.0. I think the regular edition has this one, too, though not sure.

If you have Premiere Pro, you can try importing the mpeg file, then exporting to a movie (.avi) and test with windows media player, or other players. Then bring this .avi into After effects, if you want to go further. I seem to recall that earlier versions of After Effects did not like mpeg, but not sure.
Or, you could use a number of other converters. I always use Premiere Pro or Ulead Video Studio (an older version…I think 7.x) to do my conversion of mpeg to avi. NOt sure about quicktime .mov.

Not at my system, but off the top of my head I can think of several distortion-type filters such as bulge and bezier warp you might try.

I can understand your frustration, as it took me several weeks finding my problem, including a number of times on the phone with Adobe. Finally, someone on the (Adobe) notes forum caught interest in my situation and solved the problem, as mentioned. My frustration was this: Why did you change the way you do DV handshaking from 1.5 to 2.0? My 1.5 version captured DV beautifully with the same camera, but 2.0 would not work with same camera, same port, same cable, etc. (I did not uninstall 1.5, and still have it). Made no sense to me. Even if you do change, you should be able to co-exist with other devices/drivers, because you did with 1.5. Oh well, that’s my vent…

Don’t know if this will help or not…
The “Can’t activate recorder” error in PP 2.0 when trying to capture, is what I had to deal with until someone on the Adobe forum helped me find the answer. My problem was with an ADS Technologies A-to-D converter I had attached to my system. Adobe tried to use its filters (drivers) to capture, for some reason. I had to rename its drivers to solve the problem. There are a number of other devices which cause similar problems with 2.0 capture (“can’t activate recorder”), such as a Blackmagic card, Pinnacle hardware, et al.
To find the culprit, I had to download the graphedit app, and go through some checking. The important entry to look for in the GraphEdit filters list is “Video Capture Sources”, and not the DirectShow filters listings.
If you think this might help, follow the end of this thread to see the logic:

You may have to log in to the adobe site…not sure about this.

Well, that’s what I thought…I knew normalizing would not do what I needed, but was not too familiar with hard limiting. In the past, I have always done it the hard way, and just watched the meters as I go (and listened, of course) and either keyframed volume/gain in PP, or raised/lowered the gain on different sections in Audition.

RE (1): I am at work, and cannot try, but what happens if you add a new comp, then click the transparency button (you know, the one at the bottom of the composition window) to toggle transparent background, then add the text, then the effect??

There is a “spiral” effect for text that spirals characters as if going down a drain. you can adjust the path.

I have the Sennheiser ew122PG2 system (around $500, plus tax, etc., as I recall) and it has worked very nicely for me the 3 or 4 times I have used it. Very clean sound. You just have to familiarize yourself with the menu system in order to raise/lower db level, etc., on transmitter. The only thing I have considered doing is upgrading the lapel mic that comes with it, but haven’t had time. It works fine, though.

Blackmagic had a problem with 2.0 PP capture, but have heard of no problems like you are experiencing. I doubt they are related. You might want to make sure you have the updated (blackmagic) driver mentioned in Adobe forum related to the capture problem.

If this link doesn’t get you there, just search for “blackmagic” on adobe PP 2.0 forum.
