As far as the DVI output is concern, the only way I know to get an HD signal out of it is the MXO from Matrox at 1000$, but its not on the market yet.

Also check the refurbished page at the Apple Store, sometimes they have good deals.

Cheap Raid for HD. If you find one, tell us. The only way you can save money is if you build a raid from scratch.

You also ask yourself if you want to buy the first generation of Intel chip Macs? I don’t. The MBP already as had some small updates.

The best thing to do if you buy aftermarket RAM is to take the Apple RAM out and put in let say your 4gig in. Sometimes RAM from different companies have problems with each other. Its possible that only one of your RAM stick is busted, so try booting with only one stick at a time that way you can find the bad one.

I think its a good new idea, but I don’t think I would buy one even if it was a Fiber Channel array. I’m I the only one who thinks it destroys the beautiful design of the G5 tower. I just can’t imagine how much it must weight. I’m with Walter on this one: spend your money on the new G-Speed or any other Fiber array.

First of all the PowerMacs are the Mac desktop computers running on G5 PowerPC processors.
From my experience FCP 5.1 will open a project from an earlier version except maybe if you used third party plugins not compatible with 5.1.
You definitly cannot open a 5.1 project in 5.0x.
If you open a 5.0x project in 5.1 it will convert it to a 5.1 project therefore you can’t open it back in 5.0x.
Suggestion install 5.1 at home.

Chris, are u saying that the problem was an FCP one and not Compressor?

I don’t use HDV, but from what I heard the best way to work with it is to capture it with the DVCPro HD codec.
