If the jpg (or tif) file is too large for your system to easily handle in the Vegas buffer, this will/can cause crashes/freezes. I can’t bring in 12MP stills from my DSLR unless I bring them in as a group, and even then, it brings my system to its knees. Vegas doesn’t build small thumbnails of these images. It would be a good thing if Vegas allowed the option to resample photos on import.

it’s not as much the resize, as the shifting of a field in the resize if you perchance do this. Forcing a resample should have fixed it?

In terms of capture/Xfer and quality, you both are right. But…there is a LOT to be said for file-based Xfer, and how you’ll work with it. For example, I’m working a lot with both ENG and event video. Editing data right off the CF card, no frames dropped, treating it exactly like tape. Except it’s immediate, frame-accurate access.
In my skydiving work, I have developed a workflow that allows me to shoot exactly what I think I need plus short handles for editing. That Xfer’s very nicely to the HDD system for editing, and we’re editing before the last file finishes Xfer.In other words, there are great workflows for all of the products, it’s a question of which product fits your desired or most efficient workflow.

1.) To use DVD architect I must encode the Vegas project to MPG or AVI, i.e. it is not possible to import the project?
No, you cannot import the project. You’ll get best results rendering to AVCHD or MPEG2 in Vegas.
2.) What is the best encoding format to use to create a normal DVD? I have tried numerous configurations in different codecs and each one seems to lose a substantial amount of video quality.
You get to choose exactly three.
VC1-Silly, IMO
AVCHD-very compatible codec, plays most anywhere.

See above. You do know HD DVD is dead, right? Blu-ray/BD is the only current format. HD DVD died a blessed death shortly after Christmas.4.) I’ve been creating the Vegas projects as HD NTSC, is this correct?
Somewhat…there is no NTSC HD. There is 60i HD, and 24p HD, both are NTSC compatible.

no. Not possible to change the timbre of a voice overall and have it sound realistic at all. You can’t make normal dialog sound much different than it is, in terms of changing it to a shout or to a whisper, because these are voice personalities. You might as well ask if you can change an angry scene into a happy one without reshooting.

Whatever you do, don’t use the NTSC DVD template in Vegas. Use NTSC DVD Architect, but never the DVD template.
