I get sound, but no video when I render
Posted by Peter Reitzes on July 31, 2008 at 10:44 pmHey all.
When I render a video using Sony Vegas 8 Pro, I get sound, but no video. I have followed several tutorials closely but still no luck. I render as a wmv file, change the size to 640×480, but still no video (just sound).
What I think happened is that I had set up Sony Vegas 8 a few moths back and had no problem rendering videos, but yesterday I started the program while holding down Ctrl and Shift (this resets all settings to their original positions).
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get the video to appear?
Thanks,
Peter

August 1, 2008 at 2:07 pmThanks for responding. I render from video using clips taken from a flip mini cam to Windows Media Video V9 wmv. But I have also tried rendering to Main Concept mp4 and avi, but still, I only get sound, no video. However, the inserted pics and text comes through, but not the video. It is so weird!

August 1, 2008 at 2:08 pmYes, I checked the include audio box. I really think that when I returned my Sony Vegas 8 Pro to factory settings, I messed something up. Or, it is my flip video (I just bought the flip). But I never had this problem before.

August 1, 2008 at 2:54 pmSo I have now tried to render video projects that rendered just fine a few days ago, and now these projects have only sound, no video. So, when I reset my settings (holding ctrl/shift when opening SV8), I must have change something to do this. UGH!
So lost.

August 2, 2008 at 12:34 amuh oh! Sorry I mis-read your problem. You DO get audio but NO video, okay, then back to DSE’s question. Somehow I read it the other way around ;-(
Have you ever been able to get both video and audio from that Flip Camera? Do you get video and audio from other cameras? If not it may be a Codec isue. Some of those small cams use a different codec and Vegas doesn’t have it.
There’s a small free program called G-Spot (Google it). It will give you all the info on a video file.

August 2, 2008 at 3:27 amThanks Allen,
Yeah, the flip has worked just fine with my SV8. This all happened I think because I hit ctrl/shift when starting SV8 Pro to reset to factory settings.
Any video from any camera I try to render gives me only sound, no video. Graphics, text, jpgs work, but not video.
Very frustrating!

August 5, 2008 at 3:07 amDid you load any other software during the time period? If not perhaps try to re-install Vegas. That might work.
