You can:
-Set auto crossfades length for multiple media dragged in the Options|Prefs menu-Use a post tool like Ultimate S Pro to set these Xfades automatically to all selected media.

zyou’ll always be able to render for BD if you keep your HD source files. You do know HD DVD is dead, yes?
creating SD DVD from HD source is easy, it’s merely a downconvert. Keep the HD source, you can burn to BD when you’re ready. Burners aren’t going to get a whole lot cheaper for a while. 400-600.00 is the avg cost, I believe. Haven’t bought a BD burner in a few months, so prices may have dropped a tad.Douglas Spotted Eagle

It’s a little complex to do correctly. I’ll try to log on later this evening and give you a workflow, but the upshot is in DVDA you’ll have two audio options.
However, the mix itself is VERY easy to screw up if you’re not set up correctly, or don’t know the process. If it’s just for fun…it won’t matter but it sounds like this is a paying client?Douglas Spotted Eagle

An envelope controls volume, panning, attack, decay, lots of parameters.

Grab the end of the file/clip.
Hold CTRL and click/drag the end of the file to the right or left. Left is FAST, right is SLOW.
Or…
right click media, choose Properties.
In that dialog, change playback speed.Or…

Click the “Bypass FX” button in the Preview Window. Looks like a half-moon. That’ll shut them all down.

Are you SUREit’s the VST version of the meters and not the DX version you’re seeing?

I can’t recall Vegas 5 and VST…sorry. It seems in my mind, VST wasn’t supported until version 6. There are VST to DX adapters.

As far as DX plugs, they’ll install the dll correctly into Vegas, so you shouldn’t need to worry about locating them.Douglas Spotted Eagle
